Senior Data Engineer

We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Corporate Applications & Development team within our Winnipeg or remote in Canada.

This role serves as the technical leader enabling data science within the organization. The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and operationalizing data pipelines and modeling-ready datasets that allow the Data Scientist to focus on analytics, modeling, and business insights. Working in close partnership with the Data Scientist, this role establishes scalable, governed, and production-ready data solutions aligned with enterprise architecture and AWS-based data platform capabilities. The position balances hands-on engineering with technical leadership, ensuring the organization builds a strong foundation for advanced analytics and AI while maintaining a lean and pragmatic approach. The role is critical to ensure data science initiatives are productive from day one and scalable as demand grows

What You'll Do

• Lead the design and implementation of data pipelines and data models supporting analytics and machine learning use cases.
• Prepare, maintain, and optimize clean, conformed, modeling-ready datasets (e.g., distribution, shipments, inventory, lead times).
• Collaborate directly with the Data Scientist in Python and SQL to support feature engineering, experimentation, and model development.
• Operationalize data science workflows by converting notebooks into scheduled, repeatable, production-ready jobs Build and manage AWS-based data solutions (SageMaker, Glue, EMR, Workflows, S3 Tables, etc) ensuring scalability and reliability
• Establish and enforce data governance practices including ownership, documentation, lineage, and access controls
• Contribute to platform design and continuous improvement aligned to enterprise architecture and tooling standards

What You'll Bring

• You will have current data engineering or related work experience
• Strong experience with AWS data services (SageMaker, Glue, EMR, Workflows, S3 Tables, etc) and data platform implementation
• Advanced SQL and Python developmentin analytics/data environments
• Experience building and operationalizing data pipelines, ETL / ELT and data products
• Experience supporting analytics, reporting, or data science workloads
• Experience working with large-scale datasets and distributed processing (e.g., Spark)
• Proven ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
