Senior UI/UX Engineer

Planned Systems International (PSI) is an Enterprise IT services company who focuses on designing, building, securing, and operating cutting-edge software solutions and communications systems that drive mission success and operational excellence for Federal Government organizations. We are currently seeking a Senior Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) User Experience (UX) / User Interface (UI) Specialist to support our client at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The successful candidate will support the identification of best practice approaches and resources for achieving the VA Office of Information and Technology (OIT) strategic objectives. We’re looking for team members with strong hands-on experience developing solutions within the Dynamics 365 cloud-based platform, focusing on enhancing user experience and interface design. Responsibilities will include creating intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces, conducting user research and usability testing, and ensuring that all design solutions adhere to accessibility standards. The ideal candidate will also collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into effective UI/UX designs, contributing to the overall usability and satisfaction for the end-users.

Essential Functions And Job Responsibilities

• Extensive experience with the use of multiple different web tools to determine best approaches for web page creation, operations, management, and maintenance.
• Able to create overall management strategy and oversee implementation.
• Up to date knowledge on all current software tools available.
• Extensive experience in working with customer requirements and creating web sites.
• Able to assure the overall look and feel of a web site and create a management strategy for keeping content fresh and up to date.
• Design, development and testing of new features in the applications. Responsible for regular communication with others involved in the development process. Implement, test, and bug-fix functionality.
• Designs and develops HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, liquid CSS-based web applications, ensuring high performance, scalability, and responsiveness.
• Collaborates with development team members to implement user-friendly and visually appealing interfaces.
• Develops and integrates reusable HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, liquid CSS-based components, services, and modules to optimize code efficiency.
• Conducts code reviews to ensure the quality, scalability, and security of the application.
• Takes ownership of projects and guides the team in delivering high-quality solutions on time.
• Defines and implements best practices for coding standards, performance optimization, and testing strategies.
• Writes clean, maintainable, and well-documented code adhering to industry best practices.
• Works closely with backend teams to integrate HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, liquid CSS-based services
• Understanding of the Dynamics 365 (D365) CRM solution from the business / functional perspective
• Optimizes application performance, especially in interactions with APIs and data rendering.
• Debug and resolve issues, bugs, and performance bottlenecks.
• Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops autonomous services, desktop applications, web applications, scripts, and utility programs.
• Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
• Works under general direction on routine work. May receive detailed instructions on new projects or assignments.
• Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy. Exercises judgement within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
• Contributes to completion of milestones associated with specific projects.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required.
• 5+ years' experience as a UX / UI engineer, web designer
• Ability to obtain a VA Position of Public Trust – Medium Background Investigation (MBI)
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, liquid CSS-based services
• Ability to develop good working relationships with customers, colleagues, and other stakeholders
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills, including the ability to communicate with brevity and clarity to government clients and develop work products that meet professional quality standards with minimal supervision.
• Ability to schedule, organize, and facilitate executive-level virtual meetings and summarize outcomes.
• Ability to self-organize, balance workload, complete tasks on time (without reminders), proactively seek out assignments, and offer improvements to client delivery.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Prior experience with VA / US Government Agencies
• Ability to adapt well to a changing and dynamic client environment and function independently
• Ability to work nights and weekends (on occasion if needed)
• Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor

Desired Qualifications

• Experience working as a federal contractor or employee.

Physical Demands

• Ability to effectively communicate in English, including talking and hearing.

• Ability to operate productively in a fully remote work environment, including the ability to take meetings and phone calls from a quiet and private space during business hours.

• Ability and willingness to actively participate in virtual meetings throughout most of the workday and be responsive to messages (MS Teams) and emails (MS Outlook) within reasonable timeframes set by the supervisor or client.

  Ability to be responsive and working during Eastern time zone standard business hours (8:00am to 4:00pm EST).

• Ability to satisfy security clearance and onboarding requirements:

• Print, sign, scan, and return onboarding documentation.

• Travel at personal expense to nearest government facility to get fingerprinted, apply for a PIV badge, pick-up the PIV badge, and pick-up government equipment.
