Senior Software Engineer

PKWARE is looking for an individual to build software applications and APIs in Kotlin and Java. As a Senior Software Engineer on Core Libraries, you will join a team of software engineers working on new product features, enhancing existing capabilities, managing complexity, and innovation/experimentation. The Core Libraries team is responsible for producing libraries and common components that are consumed by all the internal development teams. This individual will report to a Manager of Engineering.

Responsibilities:

• Designing, developing, and testing of security and encryption software in Java and Kotlin.
• Crafting the components of new features and updating existing software while favoring well-documented, reusable, and testable code.
• Establish and promote our engineering standards to continuously improve the consistency and quality of our codebases and processes.
• Mentoring of software developers on the team via code reviews, collaborative design discussions, and scoping technical requirements.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in software engineering or equivalent required.
• 8+ years of experience building and supporting software products.
• A deep understanding of how software is built and deployed, and why.
• Experience developing Java, Kotlin, JVM. However, we always try to use the best tool for the job, therefore we care more about your general engineering skill than knowledge of a particular language or tool.
• Passionate about engineering fundamentals such as processes, inter-process communication, multithreading, race conditions and deadlocks.
• Interested in designing, problem solving, understanding, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
• Proficient in requirement gathering and understanding.
