About the Role
We are seeking a Staff Engineer who will elevate our team’s capabilities and set a high bar for technical excellence. As a critical hire, you will work in a highly synchronous, fully remote environment where you’ll spend the majority of your time (50%+) pairing and meeting with team members. This role is central to the future success of Phin, and your impact will be directly measurable. What You’ll Do
- Full-Stack Development: Bring expertise across the stack to build, scale, and maintain robust applications.
- Problem Solving: Tackle the hardest engineering problems and transition solutions to other teams for long-term ownership.
- Team Collaboration: Pair extensively with teammates, fostering a culture of critical thinking and respect.
- Leadership: Engage with directors and executives, influencing decision-making and driving technical strategy.
- Cultural Fit: Embed yourself in our reflective, Scrum-heavy environment, contributing to a team that thrives on philosophical discourse and iterative improvement.
What We’re Looking For
Experience & Expertise:
- 7+ years of professional engineering experience
- You have been a tech lead, a top performer, or a staff engineer in a software team before.
- Track record of working directly with director and executive-level stakeholders.
- Comfortable deploying and debugging code in cloud infrastructure (queues, serverless, docker, CI/CD)
- Exceptional JavaScript skills. We are a full JS / Node shop. React in the front, Node in the back.
- Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously and excel as a staff+ individual contributor.
- Startup experience (2+ years in companies with 0-25 employees) is a plus.
