About Pathwise
Pathwise is a private equity-backed software as a service (SaaS) growth business currently serving 4,000+ school districts and universities. Founded in 1994, we have team members across both the US and Canada. Our team, which includes former teachers, principals, administrators, and federal program directors, is dedicated to being the leader in providing technology that transforms resource-constrained departments by automating complex tasks, providing real-time visibility, and ensuring seamless communication. We streamline operational processes so schools can focus more time and resources on student outcomes.
As a Senior Software Engineer in Test, you will be a key player in ensuring the quality and reliability of our SaaS products. You’ll architect and implement automated testing frameworks, drive best practices for quality across the pipeline, and collaborate daily with engineers, architects, product managers, and designers. You are hands-on, detail-oriented, and driven to ensure every release is robust, secure, and built with confidence. Your leadership in automation and process improvement will be essential as we continue to scale our platform.
What You’ll Do
- Architect, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks for web, API, and mobile testing.
- Build and optimize automated test suites for functional, regression, performance, and security testing.
- Collaborate with software engineers, product, and design to ensure features are testable, traceable, and delivered to spec.
- Champion best practices for quality—including shift-left testing, CI/CD automation, clear reporting, and risk mitigation.
- Review code, conduct peer feedback, and provide testability guidance to engineering teams.
- Investigate and troubleshoot defects, working cross-functionally to drive quick resolution.
- Contribute to manual and exploratory testing for critical coverage where automation is not feasible.
- Help maintain and improve test environments and data management.
- Keep up to date on current trends in QA, automation tools, and SaaS security.
- Support the ongoing evolution of team processes, tooling, and documentation.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field relevant to software engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of experience in test automation and software quality engineering, preferably in SaaS or cloud environments.
- Strong proficiency with automated testing tools (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar).
- Proficient in a modern programming language for test scripting (JavaScript/TypeScript preferred).
- Experience building, maintaining, and scaling automated test frameworks from scratch.
- Strong knowledge of software testing best practices—unit, integration, API, regression, and exploratory.
- Experience with CI/CD tools and integrating automated testing into build and deployment pipelines.
- Working knowledge of RESTful APIs, relational databases (MySQL/MariaDB), and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
- Understanding of security standards (OWASP), and quality as code principles.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
- Clear communicator and collaborative team player; comfortable working fully remote.
What Sets You Apart
- Experience testing mobile applications (Flutter).
- Prior exposure to geospatial, GPS, or GIS technologies.
- Knowledge of containerization and test environment management (Docker, Terraform, etc.).
- Familiarity with performance and load testing.
- Experience in education technology, SaaS, or transportation/logistics domains.
- Contributions to open-source or QA/automation community.
- Experience mentoring or coaching other engineers in test automation.
