Overview

We are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to help architect and build a global digital payments network. In this role, you will work across backend systems and user-facing applications, driving key technical decisions and shaping the future of financial infrastructure.

You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and design teams to build secure, scalable, and seamless financial systems. As a senior technical leader, you will play a key role in defining architecture, mentoring engineers, and influencing product direction. While there is a preference for candidates near key hubs, remote candidates within the U.S. are also considered.

What You’ll Do

• Own and drive roadmap and implementation across multiple technical areas
• Lead system design and architectural decisions
• Provide technical leadership across teams
• Partner with leadership and product to define strategy
• Build and maintain backend services and APIs
• Work with cloud infrastructure to support scalability and deployment
• Ensure high-quality code through testing, debugging, and best practices
• Optimize performance and scalability for high-volume systems
• Design secure systems supporting financial transactions such as payments and transfers
• Champion best practices across software engineering, infrastructure, and security

Who You Are

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including experience in fintech or payments infrastructure
• Strong backend expertise in languages such as C#, C++, Go, Java, or Python
• Experience with cloud-native development, containerization, and infrastructure as code
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices
• Strong understanding of security fundamentals (authentication, authorization, API security, encryption)
• Exposure to digital asset systems (e.g., blockchain concepts, wallets, RPCs)
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and microservices architectures
• Prior experience in a high-growth or startup environment is a plus
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to operate in ambiguous environments
• Interest in innovation and building scalable financial systems
