PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Sr. Controls and Automation Project Manager is a key leadership and execution role for delivering outcomes that are aligned with the Roofing and Asphalt portfolio. This role is responsible for developing and ensuring the execution of the Controls & Automation workstreams of capital projects that will reengineer and or eliminate job duties, drive future of work initiatives, and develop consistent, repeatable processes that do not require significant human interaction. Common duties will be leading the definition of new application requirements & updating existing applications based on functional requirements; providing cost/benefit tradeoff analysis to management; Prototyping, designing, integrating, and testing robotic and automation systems; deploying automation systems to the manufacturing floor and assuring effective training for operations and maintenance. This role owns the overall success for all aspects of capital projects (start to finish) and is accountable to ensure the business outcomes of the projects are realized and sustainable. A successful Controls and Automation Engineer provides leadership through efficient management of resources, synchronization of project management concepts and effective communication to all stake holders are central accountabilities to this role.
Reports to : Director – FOM
Span of Control : Automation capital portfolio supporting the Roofing and Asphalt Division, with a 3 year spend plan of $100MM. Project results of this role impact plants financial performance, customer satisfaction and return on investment, over the operating life of installed equipment.

Technical Depth
The primary expert on Robotics and Automation systems and concepts which will improve production methods, equipment performance, facility layout and quality of product. This engineer is required to have the following technical experience:
PLC/Safety PLC/Safety Validation Programming/HMI programming/troubleshooting and support, including drives and line drive systems. (Rockwell and Siemens)
Robotics, motion controls, motors, pneumatics, electronics, and basic scripting – ability to take systems to the next level
Articulation and movement of equipment
CAD design knowledge with Solidworks, AutoCAD, or equivalent
Electrical design and understanding of P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and fluid dynamics
Industrial networks and communication protocols (IT/OT)
(TPM) Delivering solutions that are at step 3 of autonomous maintenance
As the company’s expert, this position should have the knowledge and ability to design, create, develop and manage systems; for example factory and process automation, to make the systems work by themselves or require minimum human interaction.
Focus will be placed on partnering with operations/technical leaders to understand and solve business needs by integrating off-the-shelf solutions or developing new solutions where no-off-the shelf technology exists
Leveraging partnerships with best in industry vendors to drive innovation through emerging technologies
Projects may be in any manufacturing plant within Owens Corning
Project Leadership - Lead Advanced Manufacturing initiatives, ensuring the successful delivery of the project outcomes
Leads and engages plant leadership teams and engineers to identify and translate business needs into clear project and system specifications
Facilitator of Design Safety Reviews (DSR)
Apply project management expertise and other best practices/tools to define, execute, and fully own project plans from end-to-end
Develops and routinely forecasts project plans and project budget to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery
Communication – collaborates with all Leaders and guarantees clear and consistent communications to all project stakeholders
Change Leadership – Manages the transition to ensure adoption of change, project benefits are achieved, and project outcomes are sustainable
Adheres to the Project Management processes and actively prepares for / participates in all reviews and stage gate deliverables
Understands and follows all AM and corporate standards
This role has accountability for the scope, budget, resources, assumptions, communication, change management, training, testing, deployment, controls and user acceptance for the project
