Our client specialises in industrial automation control systems and advanced software solutions for container terminals around the world. As they continue to grow, we are recruiting on their behalf for an experienced Senior Automation Software Engineer to take technical ownership of their crane control software.
About the role
This is a senior, hands-on software engineering role for someone who thrives on solving real-world automation problems and takes true ownership of outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Design and maintain Python-based software that drives real-time crane control decisions — sequencing logic, state-machine design, and testing for safe, deterministic behaviour.
- Co-own the control system end-to-end, including architecture, development, testing, deployment, commissioning and support.
- Build automation logic that integrates with crane control systems, sensors and PLCs.
- Lead technical investigations and resolve complex integration and commissioning issues.
- Design scalable software architecture for deployment across multiple sites.
- Review code, mentor junior engineers, and travel internationally to commission systems on some of the world's largest container-handling machines.
About you
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software/Mechatronics/Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Automation or a related field.
- Strong, demonstrable Python skills, with experience in industrial, automation, robotics or real-time systems.
- Experience with software architecture, state machines, sequencing logic or event-driven systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging across complex, interconnected systems.
Role location
This is a fully remote role, open to candidates based anywhere within Europe. You'll need the right to work in your country of residence; no relocation or visa sponsorship is offered for this position.
