Lead Software Engineer

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure | MultiCloud & Media Services

This role is for senior engineers who want to lead through technical ownership.

You’ll stay hands-on, but you’ll also drive design decisions, own larger components, and help shape how services are built and run.

You’ll join Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and choose one of two product areas:

OCI MultiCloud – infrastructure problems at scale

Build services that let Oracle run inside AWS, Azure, and GCP

Work on:

• Cross-cloud networking and latency
• Identity, security, observability across clouds
• Making Oracle services behave like native services in other clouds - we focus on Azure and GCP
• Used by customers like OpenAI, Meta, Google, X

OCI Media Services – greenfield cloud products

Build cloud services for film studios, streaming platforms, and media companies

Products include:

• Studio in the Cloud (render farms, virtual workstations)
• Media streaming (VOD, live)
• AI-powered media features
• Early-stage services, real customers, real feedback

You pick the product. In both cases, you build it, run it, and help others do the same.

What you’ll actually do

• Lead the design and implementation of major service components
• Stay hands-on with Java-based backend services
• Drive system design:
• APIs
• Data models
• Failure modes and trade-offs
• Own services end to end:
• Code
• Infrastructure (Terraform)
• CI/CD pipelines
• Production operations
• Work closely with architects and managers on new features
• Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar of the team
• Participate in on-call (we own what we build)

This role is NOT for you if…

• You want to stop coding and become people manager. There is no people management involved at all.
• You don’t enjoy DevOps, operations, or production ownership
• You expect stable requirements and minimal ambiguity

What we look for

Must-have

• Strong object-oriented programming fundamentals
• Proven experience designing and owning backend systems
• Ability to explain design decisions and trade-offs clearly
• Willingness to work in Java (interview can be in any language you’re comfortable with)
• Experience mentoring or guiding other engineers

Nice to have (not all required)

• Designing distributed systems at scale
• Kubernetes, Docker
• Terraform / Infrastructure as Code
• CI/CD pipelines
• Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI)
