Marketing Leader required to work with the country manager to be responsible for developing and executing the GTM / go-to-market strategy, building brand awareness, and creating excitement in the Japanese market by building a community and working with retailers/channel/merchant partners is required by a world-leading software and consumer electronics company focused on the DIY crafting market and inspires makers and hobbyists by offering creative mobile apps and intelligent cutting machines to make and create DIY cards, T-shirts, stickers, engravings and projects on vinal, wood/ leather etc
The Marketing Lead is a new role and will be based remotely in Japan (no office, and you will need to live in or near Tokyo, as you will be working closely with channel partners/ and managing events.
Salary Circa 18,000,000 to 20,000,00 Yen
Key skills required by the Marketing Lead
- Circa 10 years of marketing experience in consumer electronics such as smart watches, fitness/lifestyle electronics, Household electronics, smart speakers, or FMCG brands (think products like Fitbit, Dyson, Sonos, Bose etc
- Demonstrated success in building brand awareness and category creation for a hyper-growth B2C brand in Japan
- Previous experience of working in a fast-moving and evolving business, strong prioritisation skills, and the ability to relate across different cultures
- Strong sense of urgency to drive change, and innovate
- Deep knowledge of online and retail marketing for the Japanese market
- Familiarity with e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Rakuten, and Yahoo
- Strong understanding of marketing channels, including digital marketing, social media, influencer engagement, and paid media
- Creative, strategic thinker with hands-on execution skills
- Strong interpersonal and project management abilities
- Fluent in English and Japanese
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Comfortable in a startup-like environment where initiative, hustle, and creativity matter
- Passionate about crafting, DIY, creativity, and inspiring others
Key Responsibilities for the Marketing Lead
- You will shape and execute the marketing strategy to support the entry and growth in the Japanese market, to become a household name
- Lead online and trade marketing efforts, including campaigns, events, digital, social media, influencer engagement, and in-store activities in Tokyo
- Partner with sales and retail teams to develop co-marketing programs with resellers
- Develop local content, messaging, and storytelling that resonates with the local Japanese audience
- Manage marketing budgets and report on campaign performance
- Build and nurture brand presence across digital, retail, and lifestyle channels
- Work cross-functionally with global marketing, creative, and operations teams
- Serve as the local marketing expert, advising on trends, customer behavior, and opportunities
