Senior Software Engineer (Java / FHIR / Quarkus) – Contract to Hire - 100% Remote

Optomi, in partnership with a leading healthcare provider, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer that is skilled in Java, Spring Bot, and Quarkus. You will be joining a team building and supporting complex, mission-critical applications that integrate directly with major Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems used by clinicians and patients every day. This role focuses on backend development, cloud-native services, and large-scale data integration in a highly regulated healthcare environment. Responsibilities

• Analyze, design, develop, and support complex backend applications integrating with enterprise EHR platforms
• Build and maintain Java-based microservices using Spring Boot and Quarkus
• Design and implement event-driven architectures leveraging Kafka
• Deploy and manage applications in cloud and containerized environments using AWS and OpenShift
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins to support reliable, automated deployments
• Participate in system architecture discussions and contribute to scalable, secure design decisions
• Develop and support FHIR-based integrations, collaborating closely with dedicated FHIR development teams

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software development experience
• Strong expertise in Java, including Spring Boot and Quarkus
• Hands-on experience with FHIR and/or healthcare system integrations
• Solid experience with Kafka and asynchronous messaging/event streaming
• Experience managing and deploying applications in AWS and OpenShift environments
• Proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins preferred)
• Prior experience working in healthcare or health-tech environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience integrating directly with large-scale EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, etc.)
• Familiarity with healthcare data standards and compliance considerations
• Experience working in highly regulated production environments
• Strong collaboration skills when working across multiple engineering teams
