Overview

Senior DevOps Software Engineer – Argentina or Mexico Based. This remote-first role focuses on building secure, scalable infrastructure for OpenSesame's eLearning platform. You will design and manage CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and cloud platforms (primarily AWS) using IaC to ensure high performance and resilience. A key objective is enabling developers to move faster and more safely by embedding security and automation into the development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Team Integration & Shared Ownership: Build relationships across engineering teams. Understand infrastructure workflows and shared responsibilities for security and automation. Promote a culture of ownership across the full software development lifecycle.
  • Technical Contribution: Enhance Infrastructure Automation and cloud configuration. Demonstrate expertise in IaC tools (e.g., Terraform) to enable consistent, auditable, and automated infrastructure provisioning.
  • Mentorship & Skill Development: Mentor engineers on DevOps principles including security by design, observability, and automation. Share expertise in AWS, IaC, CI/CD, and security best practices. Foster continuous learning through peer reviews and hands-on leadership.
  • Improve Team Processes: Participate in agile ceremonies, retrospectives, and discussions. Evolve infrastructure and platform practices such as automated testing for infrastructure, pipeline as code, and progressive delivery to improve feedback loops and maintainability.

6-Month Objectives

  • Ownership: Fully own and improve key infrastructure components (IaC libraries, CI/CD pipelines, bootstrap modules, monitoring). Identify and implement security, reliability, observability, and cost-efficiency improvements in AWS.
  • Developer Enablement in Practice: Introduce internal tooling, templates, and scripts to reduce friction in local development and deployment. Establish self-service workflows that maintain security.
  • Lead by Example: Continue pair programming and collaborative initiatives while documenting and advocating DevOps best practices across the engineering org.
  • Incremental Delivery: Break down complex work into vertical slices to deliver value with fast feedback.
  • Mentorship & Team Growth: Mentor engineers across teams and collaborate with managers to support hiring in Mexico. Align practices across teams.
  • Enablement & Standards: Document golden paths for infrastructure and deployment. Establish patterns and playbooks for secure, productive workflows.
  • Evaluate and Adopt Modern Technologies: Refine practices to reduce technical debt and improve stability and maintainability.

End of Year Objectives

  • Promote Team Ownership: Empower teams to take initiative with sustainable patterns and tooling for delivery.
  • Mentor & Develop Peers: Continue mentoring across the Mexico team and broader OpenSesame engineering team.
  • Help Shape Team Strategy: Define long-term technical strategies in infrastructure, security, and developer enablement aligned with company goals.
  • Advise Management: Provide input to engineering leadership on the needs and opportunities of growing the Mexico-based team.
  • Drive Modernization Efforts: Lead efforts to retire legacy tech and simplify architecture while ensuring stability of the Drupal 7/Angular marketplace.
