We are currently looking for a Lead Software Engineer to come and join us in Europe as part of our new team developing the next generation management platform for the Cloud-Edge Computing Continuum.
Job Description
We’re looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join our core engineering team and take ownership of developing and integrating new components into the OpenNebula platform. This is a key role for someone passionate about open-source infrastructure, with a deep understanding of virtualization, storage, networking, and cloud-native ecosystems.
You’ll play a central role in driving technical strategy, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and leading the development of new integrations with enterprise storage, SDN, and backup solutions. This position combines architect-level thinking with hands-on coding, and is ideal for a highly experienced developer ready to grow into a broader leadership role.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of new OpenNebula components, extensions and integrations
- Develop and maintain integrations with third-party platforms (e.g., NetApp, Ceph, Veeam, Commvault, networking plugins, etc.).
- Evaluate and implement infrastructure drivers for software-defined networking (SDN), storage (SDS), and backup system
- Ensure code quality through automated testing and code reviews.
- Work closely with the product and engineering teams to define architecture and long-term strategy.
- Contribute to OpenNebula’s open-source codebase, writing clean, scalable, and maintainable code and documentation.
- Act as a technical point of contact for infrastructure-related partnerships and collaborations.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with ecosystem partners and participate in customer-facing technical discussions when needed.
Experience Required
_Academic Background and Certifications
_
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
_Professional Experience
_
- Minimum of 3 years in senior-level engineering roles (e.g., Senior Developer, Systems Engineer, Infrastructure Architect)
- Proven experience leading technical initiatives and mentoring junior engineers
_Technical Experience
_
- Extensive experience in systems programming or backend development with C++, Python, or Go
- Solid background in private cloud development, virtualization, and cloud platform integration using open-source technologies
- Hands-on experience with enterprise infrastructure technologies such as Ceph, NVMe, NFS, Fibre Channel, NetApp, Veeam, InfiniBand, SDN, and others
- Deep knowledge of Linux systems, scripting, and automation tools like Ansible, systemd, etc.
- Comfortable working with version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code tools

- Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Clear communication and documentation with strong written and verbal English, async collaboration, and visibility of work.
