About The Role
At Odds Scanner we are looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our growing team in Lisbon.
Being part of the dynamic Tech team, you will be modernizing our platform while managing critical business needs. You will also lead the backend development team, mentor junior developers and drive technical excellence. You'll balance improving our legacy systems with new features using modern tools. In this role, we will give you the opportunity to shape architecture decisions while building a stronger engineering culture through mentorship and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the modernization of backend systems while ensuring seamless business operations.
- Design and developed scalable solutions using modern frameworks and AI technologies.
- Optimize large-scale MariaDB databases for enhanced performance and maintainability.
- Mentor junior developers through code reviews and pair programming.
- Define and implement engineering best practices, including testing, version control and coding standards.
- Balance technical debt reduction with fast-paced feature developments.
- Architect new API services following modern design patterns.
- Implement agile methodologies to streamline development processes.
- Work closely with project management to align technical roadmaps with business goals.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience working in software development.
- 2 years of experience mentoring junior developers.
- Experience modernizing legacy systems and working with large-scale databases.
- Track record of successful system transformations.
- Understanding of API design patterns.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
- Experience with PHP and Python frameworks as well as implementing AI/ML would be nice to have, but not required.
