About the Role:
We are seeking a Staff Data Scientist (contract or permanent hire) to transform large datasets into actionable insights and new products for our fast-growth early stage company in the rideshare analytics space. You will lead the design and implementation of machine learning models and statistical analyses to support key business goals. In this role, you’ll drive data-driven decision-making, shape the company’s data science and machine learning capabilities, and effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Evaluate machine learning opportunities and provide recommendations to address business needs and guide data science strategy.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and business teams to share data science products
- Utilize tools such as dbt and Snowflake to clean, filter, and transform data from various sources.
- Create original research for the company’s thought leadership series
- Present findings and recommendations clearly to stakeholders.
- Develop and implement best practices for data science and machine learning.
- Mentor team members and promote a culture of collaboration and data-driven decision-making.
Requirements:
- Proven expertise in data science or machine learning roles, with experience guiding team members and stakeholders.
- Proficient in machine learning libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow) and algorithms.
- Advanced knowledge of statistics and tools for data analysis (e.g., Python, numpy, pandas, R).
- Expertise in statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, experimental design, and techniques like Bayesian inference, time series analysis, and A/B testing.
- Demonstrated success in building, deploying, and maintaining production-level machine learning models.
- Skilled in handling large datasets and optimizing models for scalability and performance.
- Experience with machine learning platforms (e.g., SageMaker, Vertex, Azure ML, Databricks).
- Advanced SQL skills, including joins, CTEs, aggregations, and analytical functions.
- Familiarity with reporting and visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Domo).
- Strong technical foundation in data mining, modeling, cleansing, and validation.
- Ability to refine vague requests into clear, actionable deliverables tailored to the audience.
- Strong project management skills to balance short-term tasks with long-term goals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for explaining complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- BS in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, or equivalent experience.
