Job Title: AI/ML Product Manager

Type: Contract to Hire (C2H)
Note - Minimum 5 years of experience as a Product Manager (not Product Owner) in AI/ML, ideally within hospital or clinical settings
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced AI/ML Product Manager to lead the design, development, and launch of innovative AI/ML-powered products that will enhance healthcare delivery, improve patient outcomes, and streamline clinical and operational workflows within NYC Health + Hospitals (HHC). This individual will bridge complex healthcare needs with cutting-edge AI/ML technologies, collaborating with clinical experts, data scientists, engineers, and designers.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Strategy & Vision
- Identify and prioritize high-impact AI/ML use cases within healthcare domains.
- Conduct market research and gather insights from clinicians, administrators, and executives to uncover unmet needs.
- Develop product roadmaps focused on measurable ROI and value to patients and providers.
Product Lifecycle Ownership
- Lead the end-to-end lifecycle: ideation, discovery, development, deployment, and continuous improvement.
- Define product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for AI/ML models and solutions.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product development and delivery.
- Maintain and manage the product backlog, prioritizing features and iterations based on business and clinical needs.
AI/ML & Healthcare Domain Expertise
- Translate healthcare problems into viable AI/ML solutions and evaluate technical feasibility.
- Understand and apply interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, and tools like Cloverleaf, Mirth, or Rhapsody.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, security, and privacy standards (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.).
- Advocate for ethical and responsible use of AI in healthcare environments.
Stakeholder Communication & Collaboration
- Act as the key liaison between technical teams and clinical/non-technical stakeholders.
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear business value and clinical impact.
- Foster strong, collaborative relationships with physicians, nurses, and care teams.
Performance Monitoring & Optimization
- Define KPIs and model evaluation metrics (online, offline, human-in-the-loop) pre- and post-deployment.
- Monitor usage, performance, and user feedback to drive improvements.
- Use data-driven insights to refine product strategies and optimize outcomes.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Product Manager (not Product Owner) in AI/ML, ideally within hospital or clinical settings.
- Proven experience working directly with hospital clinical staff (Physicians, Nurses, LPNs, etc.).
- Strong understanding of healthcare domain, clinical workflows, and interoperability tools.
- Knowledge of AI/ML tools, techniques, and real-world deployment in regulated environments.
- Experience defining and monitoring product KPIs and ML model performance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Background with HL7, FHIR, Mirth, Cloverleaf, or Rhapsody.
- Familiarity with human-centered design in healthcare.
- Experience with HIPAA, data privacy, and ethical AI principles.
- Product management certification (e.g., Pragmatic, AIPMM, etc.) is a plus.
