About Our Team

Join our team within the Transaction Monitoring Unit as we strengthen Nordea's Anti-Money Laundering Controls. As a Senior / Expert Data Scientist, you'll play a critical role in developing, reviewing, and optimizing automated transaction monitoring controls that protect Nordea, our customers, and society from financial crime. The hired position – Senior Data Scientist or Expert Data Scientist will depend on your skills and competencies.

What You’ll Be Doing

Data Analysis & Control Development:

• Access and analyze complex, distributed datasets to extract meaningful insights for TM control development
• Perform statistical analysis and simulation of existing controls to assess impact of proposed changes
• Develop designs for new TM controls based on data-driven insights

Control Review & Optimization:

• Review existing automated transaction monitoring controls and identify improvement opportunities
• Manage quantitative optimization of TM controls through data analysis (including Above and Below The Line testing)
• Analyze, assess, and document the effectiveness of current automated controls

Leadership & Collaboration:

• Independently drive initiatives and coordinate with junior team members
• Manage diverse stakeholders with varying needs across multiple business areas
• Influence stakeholders to strengthen automated transaction monitoring controls
• Represent the team professionally in both internal and external contexts

Who You Are

Required Qualifications:

• Academic degree in quantitative discipline (Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Quantitative Economics, Computer Science)
• Professional-level proficiency in SQL, Excel, and Python or R
• Previous experience in Financial Crime Compliance with solid understanding of anti-money laundering controls
• Analytical mindset with extensive experience in data science and analysis
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Fluent written and spoken English
• Business-oriented mindset with eagerness to understand both technical and business perspectives

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with optimization algorithms and advanced statistical knowledge
• Experience with Quantexa or other rule-based transaction monitoring systems
• Knowledge of AML-specific domains (Correspondent Banking, Capital Markets, Trade Finance, etc.)
