POSITION OVERVIEW:
NODA is hiring a detail-oriented and creative Marketing & Communication Specialist (independent contractor) who will lead the development and execution of integrated marketing communication strategies to support the Association business objective and drive brand awareness. This position will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including educational programming, events, membership strategies, and general Association business.
The successful candidate will be responsible for collaborating with staff and volunteers to enhance the NODA brand, engage target audiences, and drive membership growth.
Applicants must be able to perform work on their own laptop or device and must have reliable access to the internet. This position reports to the Director of Membership & Operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Leadership and Communication Management
- Manage, develop, coordinate and implement all NODA marketing and communication plans and materials to ensure consistent messaging in line with the NODA brand
- Coordinate the logistics of the internal communication calendar
- Develop all graphic design to align with the NODA brand and maintain consistent image of the Association
- Advise and collaborate with NODA staff regarding marketing and communication projects, initiatives and deadlines for various work areas
- Create and maintain NODA marketing and communication plans to support the Association mission
- Responsible for writing, reviewing, and editing all electronic media for content, style and literary requirements
- Produce 1-2 member newsletter emails per week and ad hoc emails as needed
- Produce and monitor web content for NODA and work closely with the NODA staff on all changes, revisions, and upgrades
- Ensures communications industry best practices are followed, monitors NODA communications for internal/external response and/or legal concerns and recommends changes for potential policy change
Social Media
- Develop and implement NODA’s social media strategy to enhance communication among the membership, within Communities and conference related activities
- Develop benchmarking goals and continually measure the impact of social media
- Collaborate with Association staff and volunteer leader to establish processes and timelines for posting to social media platforms
- Oversee social media content distribution for NODA
Other Duties (approximately 2 hours/week)
- Attend project check-in meetings with the Director of Membership & Operations, scheduled at a mutually agreed upon time
- Attend Association Team meetings at least once per week to check-in related to communication schedules/timelines
- Provide support to the Association staff, as needed
COMPENSATION:
This position is an hourly contract position paid at a rate of $30 per hour. As an independent contractor, you will be responsible for submitting a W9 prior to the start of the position and NODA will issue a 1099 tax form at the end of each calendar year. You will be responsible for determining the individual tax implications of this contract position. This position is not a payroll position, and invoices for payment will be required.
TIME COMMITMENT
The contractor is expected to provide a minimum of 20 hours of services per week based on project needs and mutual agreement. Work hours are flexible and may be determined by the contractor, provided that deadlines and deliverables are met.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, marketing, art or related field
- Minimum of four years of professional communication/marketing experience
- Non-communications degreed individuals must have six years of progressive responsibility in communications
- Experience in marketing, publications and membership development
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions, problem solve and work with volunteers
- Able to work autonomously and capable of making critical decisions regarding marketing and communication schedules and priorities
- Organizational skills sufficient to perform multiple tasks
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience writing for publications (e.g. newsletters)
- Experience writing and delivering key messages through a variety of means
- Graphic design or video editing skills a plus (for microlearning or promotions)
- Experience with tools like Canva and WordPress
- Communications/marketing experience at a nonprofit or college/university
- Direct experience using social media as a strategic communication tool
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of social media networking platforms
- Knowledge of computer applications such as Adobe Creative Suite programs, Web Content Management programs and Microsoft Office
- Experience with Higher Logic or similar platforms a plus
