About Us
We founded New Harbor to bring foundational cybersecurity to organizations of all sizes. Today, we serve customers operating globally through our software platform and expert support. We're advancing this mission by launching a self-service platform that automates the deployment and management of security measures - making it easy for any organization to benefit from the protections proven to stop most attacks without being overwhelmed.
Organizations today face an impossible problem: employees use hundreds of SaaS apps, but enforcing consistent security across them means manually configuring each one. Enterprise SSO only works if you pay premium tiers everywhere.
We're building a platform that lets you approve a rule once - like "enforce multi-factor authentication" - and have it enforced everywhere possible without having to configure every application. We combine API integrations with an AI-assisted browser extension to automate security controls in any application.
We're building towards our public launch. The technical challenges are real: reliably automating security controls across hundreds of different applications, building a rule engine that works across varied APIs and browser interfaces, and doing it all in a way that scales. If you're excited about building something from the ground up that solves a problem security teams actually have, we'd love to talk.
What we offer
- Impact from day one: Your work directly shapes the product organizations depend on for security
- Ownership: Significant influence on both technical and product direction
- Equity and upside: As one of our earliest hires, you’ll share meaningfully in the value you help create
- Breadth of experience: From technical challenges to product strategy, you’ll wear many hats
- Mission-driven work: Protect nonprofits and small businesses alongside large multinational organizations
Role: Sr. Founding Engineer
This is an opportunity to join New Harbor at an early stage. As a founding engineer, you’ll not only shape the product but also have a hand in shaping our company. We're a remotely distributed team that loves working with each other every day. If you're looking for occasional in-person collaboration, we have team members in NYC, DC, SF, Bay Area, and Las Vegas.
This role centers around rapidly building and shipping products to users, while simultaneously guiding the team's technical decision making.
What you’ll do
- Build and ship products to users and then iterate based on their feedback
- Write and ship code daily across our core platform and browser extensions
- Define technical approaches for the team that balance short and long-term goals
- Lead major product initiatives from concept to delivery, taking full ownership of significant product areas
- Solve complex technical challenges with team members that enable the product to scale across inconsistent interfaces of third-party apps
- Make foundational architectural decisions that will define how the product works
- Take on outsized ownership and grow with the company as it scales
- Drive technical strategy balancing scale, security, and rapid iteration
- Establish engineering practices appropriate for our stage and scale
- Work with product design to ensure powerful yet intuitive user experiences
- Collaborate closely with founders on roadmap, culture, and long-term engineering practices
What we’re looking for
- Significant experience as a founding or early full-stack engineer (first 5 team members) at a 0-to-1 stage startup where you led significant portions of product development
- Self-starter with product mindset who loves writing code to build new things - you can take loose direction and deliver a working feature that is rooted in an understanding of our goals and the user's needs
- Bias toward action - you get MVPs in users’ hands quickly and refine based on feedback
- Proven track record of shipping products in high-uncertainty, resource-constrained environments
- Strong architectural and system design skills with experience making foundational technical decisions
- Excited to use the right tech for the job whether that's AI or a well-placed script
- Pragmatic judgment - you know when to build for scale and when to hardcode
- Strong understanding of security fundamentals and threat modeling (you don't need to be a security expert, but you think about security by default)
- Deep experience building with modern web frameworks and infrastructure. For context, our stack includes Nuxt, Cloudflare, OpenAI, Supabase, and a heavy browser-based component
- Thrive in ambiguity, comfortable wearing multiple hats and making decisions with incomplete information
