Overview

Join GitHub’s Developer Relations team to help make software development more joyful, inclusive, and impactful for developers around the world. Whether someone is just starting their coding journey, contributing to open source, building a startup, or shipping at scale in an enterprise, our job is to show up for them with care, clarity, and creativity.

We’re looking for a Senior Developer Advocate to join our globally distributed, high-trust team. In this role, you’ll serve as a bridge between the developer community and GitHub’s product, engineering, and marketing teams, elevating community insights into action and helping developers do their best work with GitHub. You’ll also play a key role in building trust, growing the ecosystem, and amplifying developer voices both inside and outside of GitHub.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and represent developers: Deeply understands the relevant communities and their common experiences and goals, industry trends, technological developments, and key competitors by meeting with community members, attending events, and engaging on social media. You’ll stay close to the pulse of the ecosystem — especially open source and emerging tech, and bring empathy, insight, and curiosity to every interaction.
  • Build trusted relationships: Acts as a trusted ambassador between tech communities and GitHub’s product and marketing teams. You’ll become a familiar presence in developer communities, contributing back through authentic engagement, samples, and best practices that spark new projects and strengthen trust.
  • Amplify feedback and impact: Collects and seeks out feedback from technical audiences and stakeholders regarding product usage, user experience, and technical issues, and communicates actionable insights clearly to product and engineering teams. You’ll identify patterns, prioritize needs, and advocate for both urgent fixes and long-term product investment.
  • Create content that resonates: Scopes and develops impactful content assets (e.g., code, videos, articles, presentations, demos) and represents GitHub at events, conferences, and community gatherings. Your work will help developers go from “I don’t get it” to “I’m all in.”
  • Mentor and contribute internally: Builds and enhances trust with internal teams, consistently raising the bar on product improvement plans and developer advocacy. You’ll mentor advocates, contribute to documentation and strategy, and represent GitHub in working groups or advisory boards.
  • Drive community growth and problem solving: Listens to community needs and responds with useful information, resources, and upskilling opportunities to positively impact growth. Proactively identifies unaddressed issues and diligently works to resolve or escalate them to ensure quality service.

  • Experience translating community feedback into actionable insights for product, engineering, or leadership teams
  • Recognition in the developer ecosystem as a speaker, thought leader, or open source contributor
  • Experience working cross-functionally with product, engineering, or marketing teams in a tech company or startup
