Data Scientist

Mount Indie is seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) Technical Lead / Data Scientist to support Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) in delivering advanced data analytics, financial transparency, and executive decision support. This role operates at a senior level, leading complex analytical efforts, shaping data strategy, and serving as a trusted advisor to government leadership.

The SME will drive the development of high-impact dashboards and analytics solutions, leveraging Navy ERP and enterprise data to inform mission-critical financial and operational decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical and functional lead for data analytics and visualization efforts supporting SSP
• Architect and deliver enterprise-level dashboards and data visualization solutions using Power BI and related platforms
• Translate complex Navy ERP and financial data into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership
• Act as a trusted advisor to GS-15 and SES-level stakeholders, delivering executive briefings and strategic recommendations
• Own and lead client engagements and analytic tasking end-to-end - from requirements intake through delivery and continuous improvement
• Design and implement data models, pipelines, and analytical frameworks using Python, SQL, Databricks, and Jupyter
• Integrate data from ADVANA, Navy ERP, and other DoD enterprise systems to enable cross-functional insights
• Lead efforts to improve data quality, governance, and reporting efficiency, including automation and standardization
• Mentor and guide junior analysts and developers, establishing best practices in analytics, visualization, and data engineering
• Support financial management activities, including execution tracking, budget analysis, and performance reporting
• Identify and drive innovative approaches to data exploitation, enabling more proactive and predictive decision-making

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Finance, Engineering, or related field
• 8–10 years of experience in data science, advanced analytics, or technical leadership roles
• Demonstrated expertise working with Navy ERP, financial data, or DoD financial management systems
• Advanced proficiency in:
• Python
• SQL
• Databricks
• Jupiter Notebooks
• Extensive experience building executive-level dashboards and data visualizations in Power BI
• Proven ability to communicate complex technical and financial concepts to senior leaders (GS-15/SES level)
• Demonstrated experience leading client engagements, managing priorities, and delivering high-impact solutions
• Strong understanding of data architecture, data modeling, and analytics best practices
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ADVANA or enterprise DoD data platforms
• Familiarity with Power Apps or low-code/no-code application development
• Prior experience supporting SSP, NAVSEA, or Navy/DoD financial organizations
• Knowledge of DoD budgeting, PPBE, and financial execution processes
• Experience with cloud-based analytics environments and data governance frameworks
