About The Job
How would you like to work in an environment where you can directly shape the product? At Molten Cloud, we don’t believe in artificial boundaries between design and engineering. You won’t be handed a spec to skin, you’ll own design end-to-end across an increasingly complex platform. We pair this high level of autonomy with a fully remote setup, company-covered AI coding tools, and a healthy work culture.
Born out of MIT, Molten Cloud simplifies today’s complex intellectual property rights, content, and royalties operations for the media industry. Our platform is already used by major organizations to manage hundreds of millions of film and TV rights and host petabytes of content. Our technology touches over 10% of all movies known to exist on IMDb. We partner with media companies including Mubi, Angel Studios, Black Bear Pictures, and Highland Films across six continents, and we’re backed by top-tier venture funds and prominent investors including Jack Dorsey, Ashton Kutcher, and Michael Ovitz.
As Senior UX/UI Designer (Full-Time or Contract), you’ll own design across our B2B platform, working directly with our CPO and engineering teams across Rights, Royalties, Content, AI, and Platform. You’ll help set design direction, not just execute it, turning ambiguous problems into well-reasoned decisions with minimal hand-holding.
This is a domain-heavy B2B product: rights management, royalty waterfalls, metadata, and financial/export workflows for professional users doing complex, rules-driven work. We’re looking for someone who has owned end-to-end design for a B2B or enterprise product, ideally with experience simplifying dense, data-heavy workflows, not just a polished consumer portfolio.
Why You'll Love Working Here
- You Build the Studio, Not Just the Screens: There’s no legacy design team or approval chain to work around. You’ll set up the critique process, the file structure, the component library, the whole practice, from scratch.
- A Portfolio Piece, Not Just a Job: Redesigning how Hollywood studios track rights and royalties is the kind of before/after story that stands out, dense, unglamorous data made usable, at a company whose name recognition opens doors.
- Direct Line to Customers: You’ll sit in on calls with real studio and streaming clients and hear firsthand what’s breaking in their workflow, instead of getting requirements secondhand through a PM’s notes.
- A Design Budget That Isn’t an Afterthought: Conferences, courses, whatever sharpens your craft, we’ll fund it. A designer who keeps leveling up makes the whole product better.
- A Culture of Camaraderie: We are a tight-knit group and there is a ton of camaraderie amongst our staff. We keep the connection strong with company offsites 1 to 2 times a year.
- The Package: Excellent medical, dental, and vision benefits, a top-tier hardware setup provided by us, and a 401K plan (no company match just yet).
What You'll Do
- Own design, architecture, and research for Molten Cloud’s platform, scoping ambiguous requests into clear design problems before they reach engineering
- Interface directly with customers and stakeholders to understand media industry workflows, representing design without needing a PM in the room
- Conduct user research and usability testing to iterate on designs
- Partner with the CPO and developers to translate requirements into intuitive experiences and bring the product vision to market
- Design wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups
- Own and evolve the design system, establishing new patterns as the product expands into new domains
- Set the quality bar for design org-wide, establishing critique norms without a design team to manage directly.
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of UI/UX experience with demonstrated ownership of end-to-end design for a B2B or enterprise product: shipped systems at scale, ideally with before/after examples of simplifying complex workflows
- Figma proficiency required; Adobe XD/Sketch familiarity a plus
- Proven ability to design for desktop and mobile as equally full experiences, not a mobile screen that’s just a shrunk-down copy of the desktop flow
- Strong grounding in user-centered design, information architecture, and interaction design
- Strong communication skills, able to present and justify decisions directly to stakeholders and customers
- Track record of high autonomy: working from a brief rather than a fully-specced ticket, and helping define what “done” looks like
- Experience in agile, cross-functional environments
- Python, JavaScript, HTML/CSS experience a bonus
Ideal Fit
You simplify complex workflows without sacrificing design quality. You’re:
- Creative: detail-oriented, with strong instincts for clean, intuitive workflows
- Empathic: able to see the product through the user’s eyes and advocate for their needs
- Analytical: rigorous, able to learn new skills fast and solve hard problems
- Entrepreneurial: takes ownership, thrives in a startup environment, collaborates well
- Organized: prioritizes effectively and delivers under ambiguity
