About Modulr

Modulr is redefining how software, hardware, and machines interact through decentralized infrastructure. Our platform extends beyond code it connects people, data, and devices through our unique open framework.

The Modulr.Core team builds the front-end layer of that ecosystem, developing a next-generation framework that replaces the traditional web stack with M3L (Multi-Media Markup Language) and GSS (Global Style Sheets). The Omni Framework extends this reach into IoT, enabling seamless interaction between desktops, mobile devices, and connected hardware on the Modulr network.

We are seeking a Framework Engineer (M3 Framework) to design, implement, and optimize the architecture that unifies these interfaces; from language design to multi-platform rendering and device integration.

What You’ll Do

  • Architect and implement the M3 framework, including its markup language (M3L) and style system (GSS)
  • Develop the internal parser, compiler, and runtime engine that translate M3L/GSS into cross-platform user interfaces
  • Build adaptive UI systems that scale fluidly between desktop, mobile, and embedded IoT environments
  • Contribute to the design of the Omni framework, enabling secure communication and control between local devices, robotics systems, and cloud nodes
  • Implement high-level widget systems composed of modular, reusable UI primitives
  • Integrate renderers for Kivy, SDL, and future 3D frameworks such as Unreal Engine or Unity
  • Collaborate with AI, networking, and robotics teams to ensure real-time telemetry and hardware feedback can be visualized through the M3/Omni stack
  • Document language specifications, framework internals, and developer tooling

What You Bring

  • 4+ years of experience in framework or UI engine development
  • Strong proficiency in Python and C++ (with experience in compiler or runtime systems)
  • Experience creating or extending domain-specific languages, rendering engines, or UI frameworks
  • Proven ability to produce cross-platform interfaces that maintain feature parity across desktop and mobile
  • Understanding of IoT communication protocols (MQTT, WebSockets, BLE, or Modbus) and edge device integration
  • Familiarity with Kivy, SDL2, ImGui, or real-time engines such as Unreal or Unity
  • Deep understanding of event loops, scene graphs, and GPU-accelerated rendering
  • Bonus: Experience with OpenGL/Vulkan, WASM, or shader programming
  • Bonus: Background in hardware-software UX design for embedded or robotics-driven interfaces

Our Culture

  • Voice before title, engineers shape both architecture and vision
  • Async-first collaboration, documentation and clarity drive progress
  • In-office development encouraged for close collaboration and prototyping
  • Long-term mindset, building frameworks that will outlast today’s web stack

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $85K–$145K per year (Blacksburg/Christiansburg market)
  • Salary++ Model: Token vesting options available
  • Overtime above 45 hrs/week paid at 1.5×
  • Flexible PTO plus 50 hrs/year of emergency leave
  • Weekly R&D time (4 hrs) for compiler, rendering, or IoT experiments
  • Access to the Founders Fund to propose and launch new co-chains or developerframeworks
  • Career growth toward Framework Architect or Systems Lead

Apply now. Build the network that connects everything.
