Back-End Software Engineer

We are seeking a back-end software engineer to join a greenfield enterprise platform built for a leading nonprofit fundraising services organization. This is a fast-moving, AI-accelerated development environment where engineers use AI agents as a force multiplier — not a replacement for engineering judgment. This role requires a strong individual contributor who can design and build enterprise-grade back-end systems, make independent technical decisions, and articulate every choice they make with clarity and conviction. If you built it, you can explain it — architecture, database selection, authentication paradigm, optimization approach — out loud, to a senior engineer, without a slide deck.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Back-End System Design & Development

• Design, build, and deploy scalable back-end services and APIs for an enterprise order management and operational platform
• Architect solutions with long-term maintainability and extensibility in mind
• Make and own independent technology decisions without requiring close supervision

AI-Accelerated Development

• Use AI coding agents (Claude, Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent) to accelerate implementation at speed
• Supervise and validate agent output — you are directing the agent, not copying from it
• Apply the same engineering rigor with AI as you would without it: the decisions are yours

Enterprise Systems Integration

• Build and maintain integrations between enterprise systems, including those with limited or non-standard APIs
• Design integration patterns that are stable, documented, and extensible

DevOps & Deployment

• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines end-to-end
• Own the deployment of your work — you ship code, not just write it
• Collaborate with the team on cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred; Azure and Google Cloud considered)

Autonomous Execution

• Function as a self-directed individual contributor — identify a problem, determine a solution, execute
• Bring solutions to the team, not problems
• Communicate proactively about blockers and decisions without being prompted

REQUIRED EXPERIENCES

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience
• TypeScript proficiency, actively used within the last 6 months
• Enterprise system design and implementation experience
• CI/CD pipeline experience (GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, or equivalent)
• Cloud platform experience — AWS preferred
• Demonstrated experience using AI agents in active development workflows
• Back-end or full-stack profile — 60–70%+ back-end focus in work history
• Experience integrating systems with limited or no native APIs
• Nonprofit, fundraising, or order management system domain experience
