Sr. Software Engineer - Spark and Java

Senior Software Engineer

Seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Software Engineer to lead and strengthen a financial services engineering team. This team manages a financial data platform that processes and stores large volumes of financial data using big data technologies and a distributed compute engine in the Cloud. The platform also integrates with various systems to exchange financial data. This hands-on role involves close collaboration with business stakeholders, including Accountants and Actuaries, to support daily operations and end-of-quarter activities. Strong communication skills in both technical and business domains are essential.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a team of experienced software engineers to deliver business value and remove impediments.
• Maintain and enhance legacy systems with a focus on operational stability.
• Lead and mentor team members to foster professional growth.
• Work closely with business and IT stakeholders to align with corporate priorities.
• Promote open communication and a collaborative environment to solve complex challenges.
• Stay up to date with emerging technology trends.
• Participate in defining best practices and standards for application development.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with an object-oriented language, preferably Java and Scala.
• 3+ years of experience with Spark, EMR, Glue, or other serverless compute technologies in the Cloud.
• 3+ years of experience in architecting and enhancing data platforms and service-oriented architectures.
• Experience in Agile/DevSecOps development environments.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
• Experience with modern web-based architectures, including REST APIs, serverless, and event-driven microservices.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Experience working with financial management stakeholders.
• Familiarity with Workday or other large ERP platforms.
• Background in the life insurance or financial services industry.
