We are seeking a Junior Software Engineer to contribute to the development of Lens, the leading Kubernetes platform, and related cloud-native technologies. You will have the opportunity to work on innovative features, including new initiatives to integrate AI/ML with our platform to ease Kubernetes management & troubleshooting. This position offers exposure to cutting-edge technologies and provides the chance to work on Lens Desktop and Lens Cloud, gaining experience in Electron, React, Node.js, Typescript, Next.js, Kubernetes, and more.
As part of an Agile team, you will collaborate with senior engineers, product managers, and UX designers to deliver solutions that improve the Kubernetes developer experience. This role values curiosity, eagerness to learn, and a passion for technology, particularly in AI, machine learning, and cloud-native development.
Main Responsibilities
Feature Development
Implement new features and enhancements for Lens Desktop and Lens Cloud platforms, ensuring functionality and usability.
Contribute to the development of AI initiatives that augment the reach of our product suite.
Assist in building scalable, secure, and resilient solutions using modern frontend frameworks (React, JavaScript/TypeScript) and backend (Node.js) technologies.
Work with databases, Kubernetes APIs, and containerized applications to deliver performant solutions.
Collaboration and Learning
Partner with senior engineers and UX/UI designers to deliver features that align with user and business needs.
Participate in Agile ceremonies, including planning sessions, stand-ups, and retrospectives, contributing ideas and feedback.
Collaborate with the Lens community and other contributors to drive innovation and maintain quality.
Continuous Improvement
Stay current with modern web and AI/ML development trends, exploring how these technologies can improve user experience and drive innovation in our products.
Learn and adopt best practices for cloud-native architecture, containerization, and microservices.
Team Support
Work closely with mentors and team leads to build skills in areas such as performance optimization, testing, and debugging.
Contribute to code reviews and documentation, fostering a collaborative and supportive engineering culture.
1+ years of experience (including internships or personal projects) in web development using JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
Basic understanding of Electron or willingness to learn desktop application development.
Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and styling pre-processors (e.g., SASS, LESS), with an understanding of responsive and modern web design principles.
Knowledge of Kubernetes and containerization practices is highly valued.
Interest in AI/ML technologies and their application in solving real-world problems.
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and experience working in team environments.
Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn new technologies.
Basic understanding of version control systems, particularly Git.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a proactive attitude toward challenges.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)
Hands-on experience with AI/ML frameworks, libraries, or APIs.
Knowledge of databases (SQL/NoSQL) and working with REST APIs.
Exposure to cloud-native development or cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Experience contributing to open-source projects.
Good foundation in unit testing, leveraging technologies like Jest, React Testing Library, or any other JavaScript testing frameworks.
