Role Overview

A Senior Engineer is part of a key technology team that applies scientific, mathematical, and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems, and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business.

The scope and accountability at this level include ensuring the quality of the team’s work and making sure that all designs are clear and complete for successful execution. This role involves complex design and problem-solving responsibilities, often undertaken without supervision.

We are a fast-growing team with the vision to transform how the organization sells to its customers and cardmembers. We are building a new rules-based engine to automate selling outcomes. With both front-end and back-end services deployed natively on AWS, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the business and technical strategy.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement high-quality, scalable, and maintainable features.
• Evaluate and review designs; provide constructive feedback and ensure quality standards are met.
• Identify performance issues and optimize solutions.
• Combine engineering concepts with business understanding to develop clean, robust solutions to complex problems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, stakeholders, and other engineering teams, to define and implement solutions.
• Translate business needs into technical requirements and communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Participate in story scoping, estimation, and sprint planning.
• Mentor junior developers and contribute to the team’s growth and learning culture.
• Drive design and code reviews to maintain a high bar for code quality, testing, and automation.
• Support systems in production (PagerDuty rotation) and maintain a DevOps mindset, promoting cloud-native solutions and continuous improvement.
• Implement and support monitoring, alerting, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure.

Skills and Experience

Must-Have:

• 5+ years of professional experience delivering quality software using Java and Spring Boot.
• Strong understanding of RESTful architecture and microservices design.
• Experience with AWS services (S3, SQS/SNS, EC2, ECS).
• Proficiency in SQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and working knowledge of NoSQL (e.g., Redis, Neo4j).
• Experience with Kafka or other event streaming platforms.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and alerting tools.
• Working knowledge of Git for version control.
• Experience with Kubernetes and Docker.

Nice-to-Have:

• Experience with monitoring and troubleshooting tools (e.g., New Relic, Splunk).
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform).
• Experience with performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter).

Education:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
