Data Scientist (m/w/d)

As a Data Scientist at Mercanis, you will play a key role in driving our AI and machine learning initiatives, helping us deliver cutting-edge solutions in the procurement space. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, design advanced AI models, and work directly with product teams to solve real customer problems. Your Stellar Role

• Work closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Engineering, and Business to propose and implement AI/ML solutions tailored to customer problems, develop detailed user stories, and ensure the technical feasibility of proposed features
• Conduct research, design, develop, and deploy machine learning models to optimize performance and enhance AI-driven product development, ensuring alignment with product goals and customer needs.
• Analyze and evaluate the performance of models using relevant metrics like RMSE, Accuracy, F1 Score, BLEU, and BERTScore, optimizing accordingly
• Keep a close watch on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in AI/ML to ensure we stay competitive
• Contribute to the development of ML pipelines and help scale solutions to meet business objectives
• Take on responsibility for driving the long-term success of AI/ML products and work to position the company as an innovator in the space

Your Profile Requirements

• You have a Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math, or a related field
• You bring 3–6 years of hands-on experience in Machine Learning, Data Science, or AI product development
• You have worked directly with product teams to propose and implement ML/AI solutions tailored to customer problems
• You possess a strong understanding of Neural Networks and have experience with vectorization of entities, including concepts like zero-shot and few-shot learning
• You understand the pros and cons of offline and online inference and have experience with ML pipelines (e.g., Azure ML, AWS SageMaker, MLFlow)
• You are proficient in evaluating experiments using metrics such as RMSE, Accuracy, F1 Score, BLEU, BERTScore, and A/B Testing
• You have a solid understanding of DevOps practices and Async IO
• You are a proactive self-starter who thrives in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment and enjoys responsibility
• You are business fluent in English
• You can work in our Office in Berlin or fully remote

Good to Have:

• Experience with privacy considerations and preserving techniques in model building, particularly for user anonymity and sensitive data protection
• Ability to detect anomalies in inferences, prevent hallucinations in generated text, and maintain a strong customer obsession to minimize errors
• You have experience with ETL pipelines and breaking dependencies between transactional and analytical systems
