We're a 15-person agency driving $500M in email/SMS revenue for DTC brands. We're growing fast and need another strategist who can own retention channels for multiple high-growth clients.
This Role IS For You If:
- You know why "30% revenue from email" is a meaningless benchmark without context
- You understand that email performance starts with the offer/angle/positioning, not the creative
- You get frustrated when you see brands sending daily blasts to their entire list or running birthday flows that generate $100/month
- You use cohort data to identify repurchase patterns, segment high-value customers, and time your flows based on actual buying behavior and not generic best practices
- You can explain how your work contributed to a brand's growth with specific numbers, not vague claims
This Role Is NOT For You If:
- You think a 40% open rate is success (while conversion rates tank)
- You want to build 20 automations when 6 excellent ones would perform better
- You believe subject line testing is more important than offer testing
- You're satisfied being a Klaviyo button-pusher who waits for client direction
- You measure success by how many campaigns you sent rather than the revenue they generated
What You'll Actually Do:
Own Retention Strategy for 2-6 ecommerce brands ($5M-50M+ annual revenue)
You'll develop and execute email & SMS strategies that drive measurable revenue growth while maintaining healthy list engagement. You're not just launching campaigns—you're architecting retention systems.
Strategy & Content
- Proactively own the strategic direction for your managed brands (develop strategies for subscriber acquisition, activation, engagement, and retention)
- Work with our copywriters, designers, and project managers to bring your strategies to life
- Build complex automated flows and advanced segments in Klaviyo adapted to the business and customer journey
- Push back (diplomatically but firmly) when clients suggest tactics that won't work, using data to offer better alternatives
Performance & Analytics
- Own the performance of email & SMS channels
- Be accountable for email/SMS revenue and list health - you'll create performance, list, and engagement analyses and reports, and present them to clients and leadership
- Build hypotheses and run experiments
Client Communication
- Integrate seamlessly into client marketing teams
- Ensure they understand how email & SMS contribute to broader business goals
- Propose experiments and content plans proactively (don't wait to be told what to do)
The Technical Stuff You Should Know:
Required:
- 3+ years hands-on Email & SMS Marketing for ecommerce brands
- 3+ years building complex segmentation, automated flows, and conditional triggers in advanced platforms
- Deep enterprise email/SMS experience in Klaviyo is preferred
- Personally managed accounts generating $500K+ in email/SMS revenue
- Strong data analysis and reporting skills
- Fluent in ecommerce metrics: LTV, repurchase rate, CAC, contribution margin
- Excellent written and spoken English
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Recharge, Yotpo, Attentive, Postscript, Rebuy
- Other digital marketing experience (ads, CRO, retention programs)
- Knowledge of tools like Looker Studio, Google Analytics, TripleWhale, Lifetimely, or similar

The Practical Details:
Job Type: Fully remote contract position
- Start: 20 hrs/week
- Can grow to: 30-40 hrs/week within 3-6 months (Open to full-time from day one for exceptional fits)
- Schedule: Must overlap 9am-1pm PST daily (sorry, Asia/Oceania-based candidates won't be considered)
- Comp: Competitive for experience level (discussed in interview)
