Senior Software Engineer (Java, AI-Augmented Development)

You'll ship production Java at scale using AI coding agents as a core part of how you work, not a bolt-on. This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who has spent the last couple of years building real systems with LLM tools and multi-agent workflows, and who still writes and reviews code to a high standard.

Senior Software Engineer - The essentials

• Salary: up to 150,000USD/annum + benefits (medical cover, performance bonuses, 401(k))
• Location: US, remote - open to travel (once a quarter)
• Senior individual contributor, embedded in an engineering team

Senior Software Engineer -What you'll actually do

• Design, build and maintain production backend and distributed systems in Java and Spring, owning complex features from implementation through to deployment
• Use LLM-based coding tools and agent workflows daily to write, refactor, test and debug code, and keep evolving how you work as the tooling changes
• Work with MCP-style multi-agent systems to generate and iterate on production code, automate test creation, support root-cause analysis and speed up code review
• Debug and resolve issues in large-scale production environments, and fix performance, reliability and scalability problems in existing systems
• Improve testing practices, CI/CD workflows and developer efficiency across the team
• Give clear technical feedback in code reviews and work iteratively with engineers and product teams

Senior Software Engineer - What you'll need

Essential:

• 10+ years of hands-on software engineering building and maintaining production systems at scale (client requirement)
• Expert-level Java and advanced Spring
• 2+ years of daily, hands-on use of AI coding assistants and multi-step agent workflows (MCP-style or equivalent) for development, debugging and refactoring
• Strong backend, API, distributed systems and system design experience, with production AWS
• Strong PostgreSQL, including data modelling, performance tuning and querying
• Solid grounding in secure coding, OWASP principles, authentication and authorisation, and data protection in distributed systems

Nice to have:

• Experience in fintech, payments, trading or other regulated financial systems
• Experience with developer productivity tooling or internal engineering platforms
• Exposure to high-scale SaaS or distributed enterprise systems
• Experimenting with or training autonomous coding agents
