Product Designer (AI-Native)

About Lovie
Legacy company formation is a bug. We're debugging it.
Lovie turns legal infrastructure into software infrastructure — company formation, EIN filing, registered agent, and compliance delivered through an MCP and API. Founders spin up a Delaware or Wyoming entity in two minutes from their terminal. We're building the first bank-ready entity builder for the agentic age, and we operate on a culture framework we call Future of Work 2.0 (lovie.co/culture).
Fair warning: our culture page says "ruined for the ordinary." We mean it. Read it before you apply — it's the most honest job description we have.
The role
We're hiring a designer who designs AI products, not software that happens to have AI in it.
Here's the distinction we care about: 2020s SaaS design was dashboards, settings pages, CRUD forms, and onboarding tooltips. That playbook is solved and it's not what we're building. Our product's primary surfaces are conversations, agents, terminals, and APIs. The "interface" is often a model deciding what to show, a stream of tokens arriving in real time, or an agent doing work while the human watches — or doesn't.
You'll be designing things most designers haven't had to think about yet:
- Agentic flows — a founder tells an agent "form my company" and the agent orchestrates state filings, IRS fax queues (yes, fax), banking rails, and compliance deadlines. What does the human see? When do they intervene? What does trust look like when software acts on your behalf in legal matters?
- Conversational and generative UI — interfaces that assemble themselves from model output rather than fixed screens. Streaming states, partial results, graceful failure when the model is wrong.
- Latency, uncertainty, and confidence — designing honest experiences around systems that take seconds to think and are occasionally incorrect, in a domain (legal) where incorrect is expensive.
- Developer-facing surfaces — MCP tools, API docs, terminal output. Some of our most important "screens" are text in a CLI.
- The trust layer — legal formation is high-stakes. Every design decision either builds or burns founder trust.
You'll own design end-to-end: product surfaces, the design system (design.lovie.co), brand touchpoints, and the taste of the company. You'll be our first design hire, working directly with the founder and engineers.
What you'll do
- Design the core Lovie product experience: agent interactions, formation flows, compliance dashboards that don't feel like dashboards
- Prototype with AI tools daily — we expect you to build working prototypes, not just Figma files. If you can't get an idea into a clickable or running state within hours, this isn't the right environment
- Evolve our design system for AI-native patterns: streaming, tool calls, agent status, human-in-the-loop moments
- Define how Lovie feels — the visual and interaction language of legal infrastructure built for the agentic era
- Ship weekly. Iteration is one of our six values; we don't polish in private for months
What we're looking for
- You've shipped AI-native product design — chat interfaces, agent UX, copilots, generative UI, or AI developer tools. Portfolio should show this. If your portfolio is exclusively marketing sites and admin panels, this role will frustrate you
- You use AI in your own workflow, heavily. You prompt, you prototype with Claude/Cursor/v0-class tools, you treat models as design material
- You can design without a spec. High agency is non-negotiable here — you see the problem, you propose the artifact, you ship
- You write well. We're artifact-first and async-first: decisions live in documents, not meetings. Your design rationale needs to stand on its own at 3am in another timezone
- Strong systems thinking — you can design a component once and reason about how it behaves across web, terminal, and API responses
- Bonus: experience in fintech, legal tech, or other high-trust/regulated domains; front-end skills (you can ship your own React); motion design chops
How we work (Future of Work 2.0)
Our values are LEET-AI: Leverage, Efficiency, Empathy, Transparency, Agency, Iteration. Each one maps to an operational behavior — if a value can't be measured by a specific action, we delete it.
- Non-linear workdays. We measure artifacts shipped, not hours online. Work when you're sharpest
- Async and artifact-first. Even people at the same desk communicate through the shared artifact. Knowledge gets documented, not trapped in hallways
- AI-first. Every role at Lovie is expected to build leverage with AI agents. You'll never be the only "AI person" — you'll be one of many
- Transparency. Real transparency, operationalized — not wall art
- Distributed excellence. Remote-first with an SF HQ (West Portal) if you want in-person energy
What we offer
- Meaningful equity — shared ownership is part of the contract
- Competitive salary
- Founding-team scope: your decisions become the company's design DNA
- Direct access to a repeat founder (4 startups in Istanbul, 4 in SF, exits to Gfycat and Gusto) and a team of the highest-agency people you'll meet
How to apply
Don't send a cover letter. Send artifacts:
- One AI-native design you've shipped — with a short written breakdown of the hardest interaction problem you solved (streaming? trust? agent handoff?)
- One critique — pick any AI product you use and write 300 words on what its design gets wrong and how you'd fix it
- Your portfolio and anything else that shows taste
We'll respond to every application that includes real artifacts. We iterate fast — expect a decision in days, not months.
- Lovie is an equal opportunity employer. We evaluate artifacts and agency, not pedigree.
