Who You Are:

LocatorX is seeking a skilled and motivated Firmware Engineer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining the firmware used in LocatorX Technology. The ideal candidate will be proficient in C andC++, have a strong understanding of microcontrollers and experience with real-time operating systems, including Ubunto, Ubunto Core, Zephyr, Renesas/Dialog Smart Snippets, and FreeRTOS. You will leverage your expertise in firmware design to build or maintain high-quality, high-performance, and reliable firmware for a variety of IoT devices. You will collaborate closely with backend developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver exceptional features and user experiences.

What You'll Do:

  • Design, develop, code, test, and debug system firmware.
  • Review system and hardware designs to ensure compatibility with system software.
  • Interface with hardware design and development.
  • Develop software validation plans and conduct testing to ensure system performance.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive software documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve firmware issues in embedded systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver products on schedule.
  • Ensure compliance with product design and coding standards.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in firmware development.

What You Bring:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field required. An equivalent level of experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 5-10 years firmware development experience with a strong background in C and C++.
  • At least 2 years experience developing firmware for BLE devices
  • Experience with Nordic and Renesas development environments.
  • Experience with USB and ethernet communications and protocols
  • Due to the nature of this role supporting Department of Defense contracts, candidates must be a U.S. citizen to meet federal regulations for access to government systems and classified information.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) through a successful federal background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, subject to a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Self-motivated, self-directed, with strong teamwork skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Edge IoT (AIoT)
  • Experience with Neural Networks
  • Experience with LoRaWAN
  • Experience with LEO/GEO satellite RF
  • Experience with CATM and NBIOT
  • Experience with Raspberry Pi
  • Experience with JIRA or similar
  • Demonstrated project leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, diagnose, modify code written by others.
  • Working knowledge of digital circuit design.
  • Experience with circuit troubleshooting using diagnostic equipment such as digital oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.
  • Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git.
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker.

Work Environment:

  • This position is fully remote, with occasional travel (e.g., 5–10% annually) for team meetings, testing, or client engagements.
  • The salary range for this position is $103,000 to $171,000, with a midpoint target of approximately $137,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
