Optum AI is UnitedHealth Group’s enterprise AI team. We are AI/ML scientists and engineers with deep expertise in AI/ML engineering for health care. We develop AI/ML solutions for the highest impact opportunities across UnitedHealth Group businesses including UnitedHealthcare, Optum Financial, Optum Health, Optum Insight, and Optum Rx. As a Senior AI/ML Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and implementation of AI systems for health applications at Optum. These systems will solve problems focused on improving patient engagement, predicting progression of disease, and optimizing clinical trials using both structured and unstructured (text) data. As a senior engineer in charge of AI systems, you will apply state-of-the-art approaches for MLOps to ensure the performance and reliability of machine learning models serving our customers and build data pipelines that deliver real-time insights.

Primary Responsibilities

• Own the inference and delivery of machine learning insights to multiple customers
• Manage, monitor, and scale machine learning systems, delivering insights to multiple customers
• Own model and data orchestration
• Drive pipeline efficiency and reliability through profiling, refactoring and advanced engineering
• Work with the broader technical team to scope engineering milestones, provide updates, and communicate challenges
• Develop new data pipelines to improve ML model usage

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in computer science or related quantitative field
• 3+ years of experience with PySpark or SQL
• 2+ years of experience with software engineering and software development life cycle (SDLC)
• 2+ years of experience with CI/CD tools to ship production code
• 2+ years of experience with cloud environments and cloud-based batch model deployments using Python in at least one of Azure, AWS, Google Cloud

Preferred Qualifications

• MS in computer science or related quantitative field
• Experience with Databricks, AzureML, and Snowflake or related technologies
• Expertise in ML Ops, for example, model monitoring, drift detection, and event-based model retraining

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
