The Role
This role works as part of a development team in the design and coding of our Public Safety & Justice Pro Suite product. They will manage all aspects of developing new applications, including developing specs, coordinating with other developers, and designing databases. This role will also be responsible for mentoring junior and new team members in both the code base and team processes.
Job Duties
- Design, write, edit, modify, and debug computer programs
- Support their team in the delivery of work against the agreed upon definition of completion
- Prepare for, attend, and participate in all agile scrum meetings
- Communicate with and conduct software demonstrations for internal and external customers
- Research and present new ideas, technologies, and concepts to their team
- Use their excellent understanding of product framework and infrastructure to make recommendations for improvement
- Make suggestions for foundation object changes and develop new objects to include in foundation classes
- Proactively select Product Backlog Items and commit to a timely delivery
- Engage in code reviews
- Recognize refactoring opportunities and technical debt issues to bring to the Product Owner
- Develop test scripts, design test plans, and create testing tools and QA documentation
- Perform peer testing of functional changes
- Design and write unit tests that require minimal future maintenance
- Work closely with Support to effectively diagnose field escalated issues and identify appropriate resolutions
- Participate in creating coding standards, best practices documentation, and quality release notes
- Help team to define and adhere to processes around team agreements, schedule, and rules of engagement while holding them accountable to act on retrospective action items
- Become a source of technical knowledge (Subject Matter Expert) for other team members
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Requirements
Skills & Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of professional development experience, including working in an Agile/Scrum environment
- Deep understanding of software architecture, principles, and common design patterns
- Proficient with Python
- Experience with C++, Angular.js, Javascript, and C# a plus
- Experience in developing cloud-based applications using AWS tools and services is highly desirable
- Proficient with PostgreSQL or another relational database
- Proficient with the analysis and design of tables, databases, and relationships using standard normalization rules
- Proficient in writing efficient SQL queries and analyze them for performance optimization
- Proficient in writing unit tests for validations and calculations in functions/methods
- Comprehensive knowledge of unit test mocking and can apply mocking concepts to improve unit test quality and performance
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps
- Self-starter who can work independently in a self-managed team environment
- Ability to collaborate with team and across departments to deliver results on time and within scope
- Ability to lead or organize small teams of developers in pursuit of solving complex problems
- Assist, support, and train junior level developers and new team members as needed
- Understand the value of effective communication and work as part of a team to promote communication within it
