Job Overview

As an Engineering Manager, Public Sector at Lazarus, you will provide mentorship to and lead the day-to-day tactical work of the engineering team. In collaboration with the Business and Design teams, you will optimize resources and staffing to deliver on priority tasks to meet deadlines and budget requirements per the guidance of leadership. You will ensure quality work deliverables from the team and provide regular updates to the Director of Product and Engineering, Public Sector. Budgeting and hiring staff will be an important task as the company continues to grow and scale. Implementing tools and processes such as assistive coding tools, project management tools, and full QA processes will be paramount. This position will report directly to the Director of Product and Engineering, Public Sector.

Security Clearance: This role requires eligibility for U.S. security clearance based on current or future interactions with domestic and foreign governments. Current and active Secret or Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance is highly desirable (but not required).

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This role will have direct managerial reports spanning the organization's engineering disciplines.
  • Lazarus values experienced personnel providing advice and mentorship to other colleagues with less experience. The expectation is that our Engineering Manager will formally provide this mentorship.
  • Lazarus adheres to budgets, knowing that circumstances occasionally arise that require budget flexibility. This role will manage that process, in collaboration with the Director of Product and Engineering, Public Sector.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage all aspects of the Engineering team's tactical execution.
  • Implement processes in Engineering's releases to endure on time and high quality delivery while collaborating with Project Managers and Designers to appropriately scope products/projects with tasks that meet deadlines and meet the needs of stakeholders.
  • Oversee and audit all code bases, including legacy code that can be refactored and optimized, as well as propose scaling and feature additions.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Product and Engineering and Deputy, as well as peer Engineering Managers, on architecture planning and decisioning, including security and data protection.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including machine-learning, prompt-engineering, and business operations to ensure efficient and successful customer solution delivery.
  • Continuous learning regarding how LLMs and associated tools may improve existing and new solutions.
  • Mentor junior members on the team.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience in software development and management of software engineering teams and processes.
  • Proven experience as a hands-on software engineer.
  • Knowledge of multiple front-end languages and libraries (e.g. HTML/ CSS, JavaScript, XML, jQuery), JavaScript frameworks (e.g. React, Redux, Node.js).
  • Familiarity with databases (e.g. Postgres) and UI/UX design.
  • Experience with Git and knowledge of programming languages, scripting, system configuration, and designing secure and scalable systems in Python (required) and other modern languages (preferred).
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies (experience with AWS is highly preferred), APIs (Flask/FastAPI), and database management.
  • Problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude toward learning and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with staff, clients and other internal teams.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, adapting to evolving client needs and project requirements.
  • Familiarity with LLMs and prompt engineering strategies and tactics is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with US Government directly or as a contractor is preferred.
