Staff Software Engineer, Search Platform (Remote)

For our client, we are seeking a Staff Software Engineer Search Platform (remote) to join the team of a leader in the Food & Beverages space. This role will lead technical initiatives focused on scalable systems, platform reliability, and meaningful business transformation. You will work across engineering, product, operations, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into practical technology solutions. The position offers the opportunity to influence architecture, execution quality, and the technology capabilities that enable long-term growth within a Food & Beverages environment.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $184,000 – $232,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture of the Search Engine and its operational model
• Build and manage the Indexing Pipeline for data processing
• Oversee the implementation of Availability and filtering mechanisms
• Drive the Two-Stage Filtering Architecture and relevance strategies
• Define APIs for search and availability consumption
• Manage migration sequencing and rollout risks
• Establish a measurement and experimentation foundation for search effectiveness

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• Experience designing and building search engines (Elasticsearch, Solr, OpenSearch, Vespa)
• Proficiency in Go or willingness to learn
• Experience with real-time data pipelines (Kafka, event streaming)
• Strong understanding of relevance and ranking strategies
• Excellent communication skills for technical discussions
• Experience with workflow orchestration tools (Temporal, Airflow) is a plus
