Staff Software Engineer, Home & Cross-Retailer Search

For our client, we are seeking a Staff Software Engineer Home & Cross-Retailer Search to join the team of a leader in the Consumer Technology space. This role will lead technical initiatives focused on scalable systems, platform reliability, and meaningful business transformation. You will work across engineering, product, operations, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into practical technology solutions. The position offers the opportunity to influence architecture, execution quality, and the technology capabilities that enable long-term growth within a technology-driven environment.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $221,000 – $279,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical vision for search infrastructure
• Own architecture of cross-retailer search platform for performance
• Manage Home feed ranking and personalized recommendations
• Collaborate with ML teams to implement ranking models and infrastructure
• Enhance developer efficiency and experiment with minimal friction
• Set reliability standards and conduct design reviews
• Lead cross-organizational initiatives from planning to execution
• Act as a technical advisor in product and business strategy

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience in large-scale distributed systems
• Proven technical lead or architect on complex cross-team initiatives
• Expertise in backend systems such as high-throughput APIs and data pipelines
• Experience with search, recommendations, or feed-ranking systems at scale
• Strong knowledge of system design principles, including reliability and observability
• Programming proficiency in languages like Ruby, Go, Python, or Java
• Excellent communication skills for technical documentation and stakeholder alignment
• Degree in Computer Science or related field
