Staff Software Engineer (Contingent)

For our client, we are seeking a Staff Software Engineer (contingent) to join the team of a leader in the Healthcare space. This role will lead work at the intersection of data, AI-enabled capabilities, and scalable technology delivery. You will work across engineering, product, operations, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into practical technology solutions. The position offers the opportunity to influence architecture, execution quality, and the technology capabilities that enable long-term growth within a healthcare environment.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $120,000 – $160,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and implement scalable software systems aligned with business goals
• Execute initiatives in an agile environment to meet business and technical objectives
• Establish best practices for software development, focusing on quality and security
• Design and productionize AI/ML features with rigorous testing and observability
• Participate in technical discussions and architecture reviews
• Define technical vision and architecture for the team
• Collaborate with product managers to translate business goals into technical requirements

Qualifications

• B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent (required); M.S. (preferred)
• 10+ years in architecting and maintaining large-scale web applications (Ruby, Java, JavaScript, Python)
• 6+ years of experience with JSON API development
• Extensive knowledge of microservices, event-driven architectures, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• 2+ years of hands-on AI/ML engineering experience
• Familiarity with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) and frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex
• Experience with vector databases and semantic search architectures
