Lead Product Designer, Search

For our client, we are seeking a Lead Product Designer, Search to join the team of a leader in the Media space.

This role will lead product design for search experiences, with a strong focus on AI-enabled interactions that help users find and engage with content more effectively. You will shape early concepts, prototype solutions, and influence product strategy while partnering closely with product, engineering, and leadership stakeholders. The work will span interaction design, accessibility, design systems, and cross-functional decision-making in a mission-driven media environment.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $140,000 – $170,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Create sketches, mockups, and user journeys for a variety of search scenarios
• Frame design approaches and clearly articulate trade-offs
• Develop functional coded prototypes of AI-enabled experiences
• Contribute to product strategy and concept development discussions
• Lead team discussions and decision-making processes
• Develop design standards and systems for AI products
• Represent design work to company leadership
• Improve team processes through participation in design rituals
• Support the organization's mission and editorial independence

Qualifications

• 7+ years of product design experience with emphasis on AI tools
• Extensive experience in interaction design, with a focus on micro-interactions and accessibility
• Strong collaboration and communication skills across teams
• Expertise in user research and data-driven UX decisions
• 3+ years creating functional prototypes, especially using AI
• Skill in refining AI features to meet brand and quality standards
• Portfolio showcasing innovative work in 0-to-1 environments
