The Role

We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer with deep expertise in building reliable, scalable backend systems using PHP (Laravel), MySQL, and AWS. You’ll take ownership of designing, improving, and maintaining the core backend infrastructure that powers our wallet, FX, transaction processing, and user management systems.

You will collaborate closely with mobile, frontend, product, and compliance teams to deliver stable and elegant solutions. You will work in a high-trust environment with clear accountability and the opportunity to make an outsized impact in a high-growth company.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and scaling of backend systems powering our wallet, payments, and FX services
• Design and implement clean, modular, testable code using Laravel and related technologies
• Build and maintain APIs consumed by frontend/mobile clients and third-party integrations
• Manage and optimize relational databases (MySQL) for performance, availability, and scalability
• Work with DevOps tools to support CI/CD pipelines, observability, and automated deployments
• Monitor system health and performance, identify bottlenecks, and proactively resolve issues
• Contribute to technical documentation, architecture discussions, and system design
• Uphold high standards for code quality, security, and maintainability
• Participate in code reviews, engineering discussions, and roadmap planning

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience building production-grade backend systems
• Advanced knowledge of PHP and Laravel, including service containers, queues, events, and testing
• Strong experience with MySQL database design, optimization, and performance tuning
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and modern DevOps practices
• Experience with AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, Lambda, etc.)
• Deep understanding of RESTful API principles and secure API design
• Proven track record of working on high-availability, high-throughput systems
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and cross-functionally

Preferred Experience

• Background in fintech, payments, or transaction-intensive platforms
• Experience designing or contributing to microservices architecture
• Familiarity with Laravel Octane, Lumen, or high-performance PHP setups
• Experience with Redis, message queues, or pub/sub architectures
• Knowledge of compliance, security, and data privacy best practices in regulated environments
