Job Overview
We are looking for a Data Scientist with expertise in Python and aviation operations to work on historical and real-time data-driven solutions for optimizing flight routes, fuel efficiency, and airspace management. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of flight operations, airspace usage, and live air traffic data, with the ability to analyze, optimize, and reverse engineer algorithms for better decision-making.
It would involve working with live traffic feeds, integrating them into optimization models, and leveraging SWIM (https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/technology/swim), TASAR (https://technology.nasa.gov/patent/LAR-TOPS-148), NASCENT (https://technology.nasa.gov/patent/TOP2-258), and DWR (https://technology.nasa.gov/patent/TOP2-168) data to improve airspace efficiency and flight operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Capable of Reverse engineer and refine existing algorithms. (preferable Aviation’s)
- Analyze and process live air traffic data to improve flight routing and operational efficiency.
- Work with large-scale aviation datasets, integrating historical and live traffic feeds to enhance predictive modeling.
- Develop optimization algorithms that consider dynamic factors such as weather, congestion, and air traffic flow.
- Reverse engineer and refine existing algorithms to maximize efficiency in routing, fuel consumption, and airspace utilization.
- Design and implement machine learning and statistical models for predictive air traffic management.
- Collaborate with other data scientist, air traffic controllers, and software engineers to integrate live traffic data into operational tools.
Required Qualifications (8-10 yrs experience)
- Experience handling large-scale data pipelines and ETL processes.
- Expertise in Python
- Ability to analyze, reverse engineer, and optimize algorithms for real-time applications.
- Understanding of air traffic management systems and aviation data sources like SWIM, TASAR, NASCENT, and DWR.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on real-world aviation challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years’ experience Utilize SWIM, TASAR, NASCENT, and DWR data sources to inform decision-making in airspace and route planning.
- Background in aerospace engineering, air traffic management, or flight operations.
- Experience developing real-time decision-support tools for pilots, dispatchers, or air traffic controllers.
- Knowledge of route optimization and fuel efficiency algorithms.
- Hands-on experience with real-time data ingestion frameworks (Kafka, Spark Streaming, or similar).
- Knowledge of weather impact analysis on air traffic and flight planning.
- Experience working with live air traffic data and real-time decision-making systems.
- Strong background in aviation operations, flight planning, and airspace management in the USA or internationally
