We are looking for a Lead Data Scientist to join our team. This is a pivotal role that blends hands-on technical problem-solving with mentoring across our Operational Data Science team. As a Lead, you’ll provide technical direction to ongoing data science projects and establish bridges between the different projects, while mentoring team members and ensuring alignment with best practices across the entire portfolio. You will also serve as a key connector between teams, ensuring that emerging technologies and research insights are effectively integrated into real-world applications.
What you will be doing:
- Help shape JTA’s Data Science department.
- Maintain a clear view of the entire project portfolio, identifying opportunities to connect technical efforts across team members and ensure consistency in quality and methodology across the portfolio.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and sales team to ensure technical solutions meet client objectives effectively.
- Act as a mentor and coach, promoting best practices in code quality, model development, and lifecycle management.
- Lead internal initiatives to strengthen knowledge sharing, chapter cohesion, and technical excellence across JTA’s Data Science practice.
- Help shape the career development of more junior team members.
- Ensure continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) of existing solutions and actively participate in code and algorithm reviews.
Requirements:
- Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in Python, Data Science, and Machine Learning, preferably with at least 1 year in a technical leadership role (or a strong willingness to make this move).
- Proven track record on taking ownership of the full Data Science lifecycle, including the conceptualization, implementation and communication to the stakeholders of the solution.
- Strong balance between theoretical foundations and implementation skills.
- Capable of supporting the work of more junior positions and interconnecting its efforts with remaining development teams (e.g., Data Engineering and DevOps).
- Strong programming capabilities, with an emphasis on following best practices in software development to create robust and maintainable solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Experience with Recommendation Systems and/or Customer Journey Modelling in a B2B setting is a plus.

We’re based in Porto, Portugal. Although there is the possibility of remote working, we are only considering people located in Portugal.
