User Interface Designer Student Systems-Salient Features
Experience & Qualifications:
Minimum 7 years of experience in education, government, or corporate UI design projects.
UI design certifications preferred but not mandatory.
Experience in higher education systems is beneficial but not a strict requirement.
U.S. work experience is preferred, but international candidates may be considered.
Technical Skills & Tools:
No specific UI/UX tool preference (Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, Axure, etc., are all acceptable).
Security clearance is not required for this role.
UI designer will work on SUNY student systems, which may include:
Collaboration through Microsoft Suite (Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Project) and TeamDynamix for project management.
Accessibility & Compliance:
Must comply with WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508 accessibility standards.
Data privacy and security requirements include:
Engagement Model & Work Environment:
Expected 40 hours per week (subject to project needs).
This is not a project team-based role but for individual UI designers.
Remote work within the U.S. is allowed, but in-person presence may be required at SUNY campuses.
Travel costs are not reimbursed and must be included in the pricing model.
No offshore staffing is allowed due to on-site work requirements.
Design & Usability Expectations:
UI Designer will work directly with development teams.
Expected to conduct primary user research and usability testing.
The project involves creating a new design system or enhancing existing frameworks.
Multilingual support may be required for 12 New York State-mandated languages.
Success Metrics & Performance Evaluation:
User Satisfaction: System Usability Scale (SUS), Net Promoter Score (NPS).
Task Success Rate: Percentage of successfully completed user tasks.
Time on Task: Efficiency of user interaction.
Error Rate: Lower errors indicate better usability.
Project Scope & Timeline:
Engagement is time-and-materials-based, not deliverables-based.
Milestones will be tracked using project management tools.
UI design will need to integrate with existing legacy systems.
UI Designer expected to collaborate with faculty, students, IT teams, and vendors.
Final project timeline is subject to change based on progress and needs
