Mainframe Software Engineer III

Remote (CST or EST)

12- month contract

Pay Rate: $60.00 to $66.00 per hr.

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mainframe Software Engineer III to support a one-year project focused on maintaining and modernizing critical banking applications. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with a strong background in legacy systems, particularly within the financial services industry, who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain applications on IBM mainframe systems using COBOL, JCL, and related technologies.
• Collaborate with business analysts, QA teams, and other engineers to translate banking requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Conduct code reviews, unit testing, and debugging to ensure accuracy and compliance with banking standards.
• Maintain and optimize batch processing that support core banking operations.
• Contribute to modernization initiatives, including data migration to the cloud.
• Ensure adherence to banking security protocols and regulatory compliance (e.g., RACF, SOX, GLBA).

Required Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in mainframe software development, preferably in the banking or financial services industry.
• Proficiency in COBOL and JCL.
• Hands-on experience with IBM z/OS and TSO/ISPF.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on accuracy and risk mitigation.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with version control tools such as ISPW or Endevor.
• Familiarity with CICS and DB2 in a financial transaction environment.
• Exposure to DevOps practices and tools in a mainframe context.
• Working knowledge of Agile or Scrum methodologies.
