Job Summary:

Planet Labs is a global company that operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history, providing critical data for various sectors. The Software Engineer on the Automated Mosaics team will maintain and enhance the mosaicing algorithms to ensure reliable data production at a global scale, collaborating with various teams to deliver high-quality imagery.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain and improve the image processing algorithms which create Planet’s Mosaic products.

• Ensure that data production runs reliably and efficiently at global scale.

• Ensure that data requested by our customers is available when needed.

• Collaborate with teams both upstream (handling individual image acquisition and processing) and downstream (delivering data to customers or using mosaic machinery for other Planet products) to ensure high image quality and smooth delivery.

Qualifications:

Required:

• 4+ years of experience in a related field

• Proficient in scientific Python development

• Familiarity with image processing methods or with geospatial algorithms and data

• Experience running workloads at scale in production

• Excellent written communication skills to support asynchronous remote collaboration

• Experience with collaborative coding tools such as GitHub or GitLab

• Ability and willingness to quickly learn new skills as needed

Preferred:

• Experience working with satellite imagery

• Project management experience

• Experience with logging, alerting, and monitoring tools for software
