Staff Software Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer based in United States.

This is a high-impact technical leadership role focused on shaping the architecture and execution of major products and engineering systems.

You will remain hands-on, designing systems, writing code, solving complex production challenges, and guiding critical initiatives from concept to launch.

The role spans backend, frontend, APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, reliability, security, and observability.

You will turn ambiguous product and engineering challenges into scalable technical solutions and clear execution plans.

As a senior technical voice, you will influence architecture decisions while balancing speed, scalability, cost, reliability, and maintainability.

You will also raise engineering standards through mentorship, collaboration, and strong development practices.

Accountabilities

• Own the technical design and execution of major products, systems, and engineering initiatives, taking responsibility from initial concept through production.
• Design and evolve scalable, reliable systems across backend and frontend applications, APIs, databases, and cloud infrastructure.
• Remain hands-on through coding, prototyping, code reviews, debugging, troubleshooting, and production problem-solving.
• Lead architecture decisions and evaluate trade-offs involving performance, scalability, reliability, cost, development speed, and long-term maintainability.
• Translate ambiguous product and business challenges into clear technical approaches, solution designs, and actionable execution plans.
• Lead technically critical initiatives and coordinate engineering efforts across teams to ensure successful delivery.
• Strengthen engineering quality through improved system design, testing, security, observability, reliability, and development practices.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance that raises engineering capabilities and standards across the organization.
• Solve complex production and system-level problems while ensuring solutions remain robust as products, teams, and markets scale.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience building and delivering production systems.
• Deep technical expertise in one or more areas such as backend engineering, frontend development, distributed systems, APIs, databases, or cloud infrastructure.
• Strong system design and software architecture capabilities, particularly for complex or high-scale environments.
• Excellent coding skills and a willingness to remain actively hands-on in engineering work.
• Proven experience providing technical leadership for major engineering projects from architecture and design through implementation and production.
• Strong judgment when evaluating technical trade-offs, with the ability to balance business priorities against scalability, reliability, cost, and maintainability.
• Demonstrated ability to influence engineers and cross-functional stakeholders without relying solely on formal authority.
• Strong problem-solving skills and experience diagnosing and resolving complex production issues.
• Ability to work effectively in a distributed, fast-moving international environment across multiple countries and time zones.
• Strong English communication skills, as English is the primary working language across global teams.
• Experience scaling engineering teams, systems, or development practices through significant growth is a plus.
• Experience working across multiple products, markets, or countries is also desirable.
