This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Backend in the United States.

We are seeking an experienced backend engineer to lead the design, development, and operation of large-scale, high-performance distributed systems. In this hands-on role, you will work on critical infrastructure that supports billions of requests daily and serves thousands of teams globally. You will combine deep technical expertise with leadership skills to guide system architecture, mentor peers, and ensure reliability, scalability, and efficiency. This role offers the chance to shape foundational systems in a collaborative, high-impact environment while working remotely with a small, focused team.

Accountabilities:

Lead the design, implementation, and operation of backend infrastructure, including load balancing and CDN systems
Build scalable, reliable, and high-performance distributed systems in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Mentor and coach engineers, providing technical guidance and promoting best practices
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical deliverables
Drive system reliability, performance, and operational excellence, monitoring metrics and optimizing systems
Contribute to platform improvements, internal tools, and processes that enhance engineering efficiency
Foster an inclusive, collaborative team environment focused on growth, learning, and excellence

Requirements

Extensive experience designing and delivering large-scale distributed systems or infrastructure in a cloud environment
Proficiency in Java, C#, Go, C++, or Rust (Java preferred)
Hands-on experience with CDNs (e.g., Cloudflare, CloudFront) and Load Balancers (e.g., NGINX, Envoy) is a plus
Strong communication and leadership skills, including experience mentoring engineers
Ability to translate business needs into robust technical solutions
Demonstrated track record of building highly performant, reliable, and scalable backend systems
Commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion, and belonging in engineering teams
Experience building internal platforms and collaborating with feature teams is a plus
Passion for learning and adopting new technologies as needed
