This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer (Impala Performance Engineer) in Hungary.

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Staff Software Engineer to optimize performance and scale for large-scale data warehouse systems. In this role, you will collaborate across distributed teams to design, benchmark, and enhance high-performance, cloud-native solutions. Your work will directly influence how data engineers and analysts extract insights efficiently from massive datasets. This role requires hands-on expertise in distributed systems, performance engineering, and coding, as well as leadership in cross-functional collaboration. You will operate in an international, hybrid environment, contributing to the evolution of enterprise-grade data platforms. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape cutting-edge analytics technology while mentoring a team and driving technical excellence.

  • Accountabilities:
  • Lead performance optimization and benchmarking for large-scale distributed data systems.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external contributors to drive performance improvements across the data warehouse stack.
  • Analyze system behavior to identify bottlenecks and propose solutions for scalability, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for performance issues reported internally or by customers, recommending corrective actions.
  • Evaluate and compare performance of competing systems to inform engineering decisions.
  • Work closely with product managers and engineering teams to understand workload requirements and translate them into scalable solutions.
  • Mentor and guide engineers, setting technical standards, reviewing code, and fostering collaboration.
  • Contribute to architecture and design discussions to ensure robust, production-ready solutions.
  • Requirements:
  • 8+ years of professional experience in performance engineering for large-scale distributed systems.
  • Deep understanding of DBMS algorithms, data structures, and full-stack system performance (CPU, RAM, storage, network, Linux kernel, JVM).
  • Hands-on experience in Java, C++, Golang, or Python.
  • Familiarity with containerization, Kubernetes, and cloud-based infrastructures.
  • Experience with performance measurement methodologies, tools, and analysis techniques.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects in a distributed, international team environment.
  • Preferred: experience with the Hadoop ecosystem (Impala, Hive, Kudu), public cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP), and advanced analytics frameworks (Spark, Airflow).
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaborative skills.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
