Senior Software Engineer, Decision Science

This role offers the opportunity to directly shape the technology powering high-impact scientific and operational decisions. You will build scalable software and decision science tools that accelerate discovery and innovation in complex, data-rich environments. Collaborating closely with data scientists, engineers, and domain experts, you will tackle challenging problems at the intersection of software engineering, machine learning, and scientific research. The position provides a fast-paced, collaborative environment where your contributions have tangible impact, including deploying solutions that drive real-world exploration outcomes. Occasional travel to field sites will allow you to see the direct impact of your work.

Accountabilities

• Architect, implement, and maintain decision science libraries and tools to support high-quality, data-driven decision making
• Build frameworks for rapid prototyping, experimentation, evaluation, and simulation, transforming research outputs into robust production pipelines
• Apply and coach engineering best practices, including writing testable, composable, and maintainable code
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including data scientists, geoscientists, and engineers—to design and implement scalable decision science systems
• Visualize complex scientific data for domain experts and support knowledge transfer across teams
• Occasionally travel to field sites to observe technology in action, gather requirements, and iterate on solutions

Requirements

• 5-10 years of experience in decision science with a strong software engineering focus
• Proven track record of building production-quality data processing systems or tooling that deliver measurable business value
• Proficiency in Python, including array-based libraries such as NumPy and xarray
• Strong foundation in machine learning, including statistical, traditional, and deep learning approaches
• Experience with scientific data analysis, visualization, and ML system deployment (MLOps)
• Ability to handle complex, noisy, and disparate datasets, and collaborate with non-technical domain experts
• Strong problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to prioritize and take ownership of large projects
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, adaptable to dynamic, fast-growing environments
