Senior Software Engineer (Contract to Hire)

This role is designed for an experienced software engineer passionate about building scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend systems. You will play a key role in developing core payment services, APIs, and infrastructure to support complex eCommerce and fintech workflows. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including product, design, and operations, you will help translate strategic goals into actionable engineering solutions. This position offers the opportunity to influence architecture, improve operational efficiency, and deliver impactful solutions that enhance customer and merchant experiences. Your work will be central to driving innovation, ensuring system reliability, and maintaining compliance across payments operations.

Accountabilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable payment services and infrastructure to support complex transaction workflows
• Build and evolve core APIs, ledgers, and payout systems for multi-seller and Merchant-of-Record (MoR) capabilities
• Ensure high reliability and fault tolerance across PostgreSQL, BigQuery, and Elasticsearch databases
• Provide technical leadership within the engineering team, including mentoring peers, participating in design reviews, and guiding incident response
• Collaborate with merchant-facing teams to understand settlement requirements and compliance needs
• Implement and maintain security and compliance measures in line with PCI DSS, AML, and KYC standards
• Automate manual workflows to improve efficiency, speed, and accuracy across payment operations
• Monitor system health, performance, and observability using tools like Datadog, including logging, alerting, and reporting

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience as a software engineer
• Strong proficiency in Go, Java, or Python for backend development
• Proven track record of delivering high-quality, reliable products
• Experience in eCommerce, fintech, or payment systems is highly desirable
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, scalable architecture, and database design
• Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate cross-functional initiatives
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, REST APIs, and microservices architecture
• Excellent problem-solving, project management, and analytical skills
